"Jimmy Neesham has been named in New Zealand's Test squad for the upcoming tour of India, having not played an international since the Brisbane Test against Australia last November. Fast bowler Matt Henry and batsman Jeet Raval have been dropped from the 16-man squad that toured Africa, with Neesham the only addition to what is now a 15-man group."

NZ playing a squad game against Mumbai, which does nothing to stimulate interest in the series.

http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/82 ... ur-curator
this comment makes no sense how can winning a toss be so crucial be a sporting deck.
While curator Shiv Kumar denied that he was preparing a spinning track, such a move was being widely speculated here. "I am preparing a sporting wicket and not a square turner," he told ToI on Sunday. "It will turn, but from Day Three," he said, adding: "Toss will be crucial as batting will be the easiest on the opening two days."

Surely a sporting deck is one where the toss plays no role in the result of the game.

Anyway I expect the pitch to offer some turn in the first day might not be enough to get nz all out for less than 200 but expect they would be some help for the bowlers so that the batting team doesn't get 600 or more runs and the bowlers feel like they can get some wickets in the first innings.

Should be an interesting series since on paper NZ are the strongest team to tour india this season.

On most tracks the toss is pretty important, in any country where the weather doesn't affect bowling conditions to a large degree batting first is the way to go to get the best batting conditions, and when the weather is important to get the best bowling conditions. I can hardly think of a situation when the winning the toss would not be important unless the captain makes a really poor decision.

good point but was really making the point that surely if the curator wants a sporting deck then the toss shouldn't be important considering most curator try to make a pitch where the toss isn't important and really most of the best pitches are the ones where the team winning the toss isn't sure if batting first or bowling first is the best option.

feel odds for a curator to want a sporting deck and then say bat first win the game?.
if the toss is the crucial decision on the result then it isn't exactly sporting is it.

Boom India won the toss, normally don't care about the toss but with the curator being an idiot would have been annoying if NZ won the toss and posted 600 or something.

You couldn't make this up people are now complaining for a placid pitch.

As long as the pitch holds together it should not be to much of a problem. Pitch is slow which is expected, but reports saying there is not much turn?

Kinda wish that the toss was done away with in the first tests of series, and that the home team allows the visiting team to decide what to do.

How do you expect bowlers to take wickets then with no turn, slow pitch and not much swing barring the reverse if any bowler could get long enough to take 20 wickets to win the game.

pitch really needs to deteriorate for any team to take 20 wicket here and if it deteriorate on day 2 or 3 it is pretty much unfair on the NZ team having to bowl in the best batting conditions and then bat in the worst batting conditions.
how anyone thinks that is a good pitch or a fair one needs to get the heads examined.
