Rashid not getting a bowl or bat suggests he's not in the plans for the test. I'd go for Hameed rather than Duckett to open with Cook. Cook has been in Bangladesh for 10days aclimatising during the ODI series apparently then went home and is booked on a return flight this evening. Settle for a 0-0 in the series- can't see us taking 20 wickets on low flat pitches which is why I'd pick Hameed over Duckett.
I'd go with
Cook
Hameed
Root
Ballance
Bairstow
Stokes
Ali
Ansari
Woakes
Broad
Batty

ecb saying Rashid plays and the only reason he didn't play the warm up games was that they didn't want bangladesh players having time to pick him.

Although can't find the article now, but saw the article in the morning.

Actually played in the 1st warm up game and had extremely economical figures which may well confirm that Bangladeshies had difficulty reading him. A cunning plan!

Cricinfo got Hameed opening and Duckett at four although I would have it the other way round in bangladesh.

really England should look to score with the new ball.

they got broad at 11 with stokes 3rd seam option and 3 spinners with Ansari likely to miss out.

I'm happy with:

Cook / Hameed / Root / Duckett / Ali / Bairstow / Stokes / Woakes / Rashid / Batty / Broad

Though I'm not sure about promoting Ali up to 5, as it appears England will do. Interestingly, all 11 have a first-class century to their name.

I'll be surprised if Hameed makes the team and I think the fact that Ballance is in the squad guarantees his inclusion , at least in the first test. Duckett has made a strong case for inclusion so for me it's only the spinners, who and how many, that are unknown.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Probably the best from the squad, though I'd swap Stokes and Mo. Got a feeling Ball might play though.

Bangladesh TV making a bit of a villain of Stokes after he refused to shake Abdul Mazid's hand.

I really don't think Cook and Hameed will work as an opening partnership.

I'd rather have Duckett at 2 and Hameed at 4 if both were to play.

Looking at the scorecard it seemed Haseeb must be batting very slowly with his teatime score. But he was scoring at 45 runs/100 balls.

Ballance is a James Whittaker pick. Not sure he is a Trevor Bayliss pick though. Dropped 2 Tests into his reign and Bayliss publicly stated his preference for Stokes or Buttler (both as specialist batsman, the former couldn't bowl at the time) replacing Compton this last summer (and he also name-dropped a few other players).

Duckett had the majority of the strike during the morning session. At lunch he had faced 102 balls (for 60 runs) compared to Hameed's 61 (for 26 runs).

I thought Ballance was a Flower pick. Although it might be they become refiled as Whitaker picks if they don't work...

There seems to be tail wind for Duckett batting at four, which I'm not sure the England party has done anything to encourage. Will they field two debutants in the top four? Away from home?

I can see the coach might feel differently from the selectors, but they are working together and the coach is a selector. If the team is picked to spite the squad, they really are in trouble. And the system isn't working. A fairly orthodox squad was picked full of pace options. And yet many are saying they'll pick two plus Stokes. They took Gary Ballance among few experienced batting options, but they're going to leave him out? They've packed the squad with spinning all rounders...

If I had a quid to put on the team I expect, it'll be four seamers, two spinning all rounders and Ballance at four. If it's not, I wonder why the squad is like it is.

Maybe they took a lot of seamers and spin options in case any got blown up, better safe than sorry eh.
