It'll be interesting to see what they do with the batting line up.

Ballance clearly needs to be moved on from as he seems to have made no improvements in his technical flaws and he set off the collapse with the worst shot of the lot.

Do you bring Hameed in? It would seem a little counter productive to shift Duckett down the order, but I don't see why Hameed couldn't come in at four then move up to open mid series if needed. England need to show a lot more patience on surfaces like today. Buttler would be the other option in the squad but he's barely played any long form cricket since he was dropped from the team in the UAE.

And, what to do about Ansari, Batty Moeen and Rashid? Still think we should be playing 2 spinners and 4 pace bowlers.

Now England have lost 10 wickets in a session - it's certainly a funny old game!

Well played Bangladesh - thoroughly deserved the win and draw the series. Hopefully they will continue to progress and become a more significant force in Test cricket, which has to be good for the game.

Yep even Cook was please for them and said they would be a tough team to beat at home.

Currently, Bangladesh are ranked eighth, and West Indies ninth....

Does this mean that Bangladesh will pass us in the rankings?

Potentially a good toss to have lost?

I withdraw my previous comment and say no.

Is it 14 of the last 15 test in the sub continent where the team winning the toss has won the match? It might actually be more, anyone fancy checking.

Seems to be that's often how we feel after two Test series.

Bit of a thumping this one, well done BD on their first test win that doesn't need any qualification.

Further wins may depend on how successful they are at attracting visitors, as it's hard to see them functioning as well away.

England's bowlers let BD score far too many in the second innings. England's batting was disappointing, but that wasn't too far off a fourth innings par score. Though the collapse was spectacular.

England are in a slump. After the unexpected Ashes win, a much improved tour to UAE, an impressive win in SA, and then a heavy, one sided defeat of SL, there has been a home draw with Pakistan and a draw in BD. Both these were poor results for a side with stated aspirations to be top ranked. And this will be followed by a one sided defeat to India. England will really need to beat SA (then WI) at home next year if there are not to be personnel changes.
I always say that everybody's right.

The real question England need to answer is why there are so many new cricketers coming into this side and looking so poor. Its clear that all of this overblown coaching and player progression nonsense is not working, as hardly anyone arrives at the top level with a technique or mindset suitable.

Yet in recent times, those responsible for this area gain influence. And the suggestions are the selectors will be done away with and the cricket academy boss, who has done literally nothing, will have more say.

Its not rocket science. Regardless of past form and test records, we need to return to an othrodox side of specialists, and we need a long hard look at who those players are and give them time as a team to gel.

TBH was hoping to start a thread soon to see if people think england lions is overrated really get the impression these days they don't do much and not really sure on which aspect they actually pick players on.
You hear so many people say english players play and spend time abroad in the Sub C, Australia, SA etc but what are they actually doing considering the young players don't exactly look that great when they come in the team and they haven't exactly improved bowling or facing spin either.

Take this winter 50 players taking part in the programme yet they only playing UAE and Afghanistan so what they doing rest of the time.
haven't announce the feb or march series either if that actually happens.

Tamim averaged 55 in the series and the next best was 35 (save Woakes' not out boosted 50+ average). He was the only batter to score a ton, and the only one to go past fifty more than once. I guess he won't be POTS, but he stood out as a class apart in the conditions.

I dont think the answer is that they dont play abroad much, because our batsman dont do anything in helpful and non alien conditions that much. I think what has happened is, England have chewed up and destroyed the best available cricketers they had, and now are going a level lower to find players who will be better.

Your Compton's, Taylor's and Robsons, had they been managed better initially, would have been probably better cricketers a few years on and wed have a stable side.

We had serious suggestions at the start of last summer that a guy who averaged under 20 in his only Div 1 season, and who had smashed 3 hundreds in quick succession but who had a poor career for 9 FC years was suddenly test worthy.

The team is full of players no one really expects to do well.

The biggest example is Robson. How he can average over 30 in his few internationals and not be even considered for a squad is strange to me. So we go to players with one good season a standard lower, and its like he doesnt exist.
