This must be one of the worst side ever sent out for a warm up game.

Until the eighties, when England used to tour Australia, they would play at least one game against each state side, and one against the each state's 'Country XI', a team of amateur grade cricketers , played at a ground out in the bush somewhere. I think these were two day games, so results weren't common, but there was usually a mismatch in quality.
I always say that everybody's right.

Seems some of the Australian bats have made runs in state games this week. Burns, Marsh, Smith, Khamaja and Wade all getting good scores.

M Marsh, Vogues, Warner and Neville have not.

These matches also have seen the return of Starc and Siddle after injury lay offs.

Starc might well make the first test against SA, not sure Siddle will be playing tests again.

Australian test squad for the first test:

David Warner, Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith (capt), Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill (wk), Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle, Joe Mennie, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon

Surprised that Siddle is straight back into the team after such a long lay off. By all accounts has bowled well against Tasmania though, so happy to see him back, along with Starc. Starc did not bowl in the second innings of the state game against Queensland. Hopefully just resting him for the test.....

I'm guessing that Mennie will be 12th man. Seems Mennie was picked as he is better with the bat than Bird, though not sure that is the best reason for selection. Is Mennie any better than Faulkner with the ball? Seems like Bird wont get a fair shot at the test team which seems a little harsh. Has not done a bad job when selected, and must be considered a better bowler than Mennie.

Let's hope the pitches are better this year

The pitches in Australia last year were some of the worst for cricket in the history of the game

Hopefully CA realise that sporting pitches will lead to better overseas performances.

We can do with out the batting paradises produced in Australia in the last few years :angry

Surprised to see Mennie selected.

Can't have been on his form in the SA ODIs. Marsh says he is a better bowler with a red ball. Or a pink one...but as you say , Yuppie, he will be twelfth man anyway.
Rest of the team picked itself , though MMarsh will need runs...

Reminds me of when they picked Hastings who "could bat and bowl into the wind at the WACA" over the same bowler (Bird) against the same opponent at the same venue albeit in the series decider and not in the first Test. Guess how that went....
