Swann and panesar made debuts in India, the only awful debuts in India been owais shah and Blackwell. India been a good place to blood England debutants.

Is there an Owais Shah I dont know about? Because the one that I am aware of scored a rather incredible near hundred in his only test in India, on a bunsen pitch in Mumbai, vs two world class spinners, in a match where India scrapped 100 in the last innings.

He was rewarded with the drop.... was supposed to be an arsehole

Didn't play many test for England only 6 with an average of 26.
Got dropped for good after 2009.
But if you class shah as a success then only Blackwell been a dud.

You said it was an awful debut.... I say he scored on 12 runs less than India's whole second innings in his first test effort, in difficult conditions.

Samit Patel was pretty awful on debut in India.

Yeah. But to be fair to him, like Ali, they were picking him to bowl spin

meant the overall career.
although suppose Compton could be included now.
people that debuted in india haven't actually done that badly for england, more success than failures.

The problem is more that England pick batsmen who bowl a bit of spin rather than out and out spinners.

Aside from Kerrigan, how many spin bowlers have we picked in recent times?

kohli not happy with the grass on the rajkot wicket, not sure I agree with the sca chairman though since the grass did ruin a good pitch by making the pitch far too solid.
be interesting what the groundsman thinks of it.

pretty annoying India collapsed in the last session though if they didn't collapsed more would have been made out of the pitch, the pitch wasn't that bad but the grass made it stick together better allowing it better for batting throughout the 5 days, especially in the mornings.

Groundsman saying the pitch will turn on Day 2 but if the pitch is starting to turn on day 2, it would probably help the bowler a bit on the first day as well.

Has a specialist bowler in test cricket ever got less than 8 overs to prove himself?

Serious question, but surely there cant be another bowler picked as a specialist who played in at least one test with a result, that was asked to bowl less.

Whoever picked and dropped him like that, should have been put up in front of a firing squad.

Played two tests vs Zimbabwe in 1999 or 2000.... he may have not done anything in the first test, but Zimbabwe were in a position to win that second test, Murray scored 150 not out... he must have bowled more than 8 overs.

Muzzler... the career wrecker :salute
