Indian team :

ODI squad: KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (capt), MS Dhoni, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Yuvraj Singh, Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav

VIrat takes ODI captaincy from Dhoni who has done wonderful job winning world cup as well as playing lot of match winning innings. However, imo now that Virat has established himself as ATG ODI cricketer he is much more than settled and ready for captaincy as well.

bit of a surprise that yuvraj is back though - that's really the talking point

also will be interested to see how Pant goes in the T20's - could be the man to take the gloves from Dhoni

England should win 3-0, they are 100 times better than india in odi at the moment.
england chase and they win 70-80% of the time in my books.
not sure I would back india to chase 320 odd either if kohli fails.
Depends on how Ashwin and jadeja bowl in the series, india bowling attack looks better on paper than the batting.
also depends on how badly and eager the indian players are to perform in the odi wouldn't surprise me if the players are thinking about Australia test like they were doing during the NZ odi series.

When I was looking up Kohli's ODI year I was a bit surprised that India's 50 over form was so sketchy (games with Zimbabwe hardly count). And they've played so few games. No Mo'hit, which helps England. England have their best chance in India, maybe for decades. But it's England, in India.... Unusually, if the pitches are flat, England might do better. Hard to see England win on slow turners.

I don't know, Kohli is one of the best chasers in the game at the moment.

India have a strong squad. Is Rohit injured?

I expect some massive totals given the depth of batting on both sides, and the short boundaries at many Indian grounds.

The big question, though, bhaves, is will the toss be important? ;)

It is Odi the toss is always important the chasing team got a huge advantage all the time.
Top teams win about 80% in chasing and they often do it with ease.
it is one reason why Odi is hated so much in the English, Australian or non Asian fans views.
Often the game decided with the toss and feels boring watching teams stroll into target.

Think traders attributed 20-30 runs in batting second and they felt Odi would be a better format if batting first was giving a head start to compensate bowling last.
Pretty big advantage bowling first especially now when teams can' easily chase 180 in the last 23 overs.

Also due plays a part in proceeding.

from what i can see in the last 5 years its pretty even tbh between winning the toss and deciding to bat or bowl as far as winning the game

teams that lost the toss actually won slightly more games than those that won the toss, 288-270

of the 270 games where a team won the match after winning the toss those that batted first won 132 games compared to 138 games where they chased

Rohit is injured. He will be missed. Has proven ability to score big hundreds and 2 doubles. Plus a good fielder.

England should be more competitive in the ODI format, but I don't see them coming up with a way of dealing with India's spinners.

except that Ashwin and Jadeja will only be able to bowl 20 overs between them, instead of the average of 60 overs per innings that they bowled in the tests. Fielding restrictions too.

might not be enough to save England, of course, but I expect England to do better in the one dayers....... although I'll stop short of saying that I would be surprised if England were as awful as they were before Christmas, because whenever England cannot possibly get any more shambolic.... they often manage to find a way. They are a resourceful bunch, in that regard

imo England will compete much better than they did in tests.

All matches are day night. If India wins toss we will look to bowl first because we have more spinners in team than England has and hence we need to avoid dew at all costs.

Really hope the english odi team not listening to the english press at the moment regarding the champions trophy in 2017.
what planet are these people living on if they think the pitches will be green.
pretty much guaranteed that the pitches will be great batting decks and not much help for the bowlers for all kinds, feel odd and stupid if they suddenly expecting 260-270 games in england after the run fest with morgan in charge and great attacking white ball cricket batting depth in the country.

if they ever get into their head again that 260-270 is a good score england probably going to be awful again in ODI/ICC tournaments.
if anything they should even remove the thought of home advantage and the possibility of green pitches considering the counties/ECB can't even prepare the wickets in the icc tournaments and it is 99% likely the pitches for the tournaments will be belters.
the only home advantage england got is they know the area and played here before and comfortable with the dressing rooms and hotels.
if they think in a crucial game they can get a green deck they are most likely going to be disappointed.

Saying that england are probably favourites but they do have a tough group with NZ and Australia.
