The press is saying Joe will be available for the first game, the baby being born.

In for Bairstow.

Normally I'd suggest another spinner (probably for Willey) in India, but I'm not that excited about Dawson. Repeating myself, but not sure Ravi and Samit couldn't have a role on Asian pitches in ODIs- except England are probably preparing for the CT as much as trying to win in India.

i wouldn't be in favour of Willey not playing as well, he might not get the early swing in the sub-con that he gets elsewhere but is turning into a very good limited overs bowler

Willey's often the first out (Kenneth moment intended), but maybe rotate. But they'll start with four seamers, until it starts to go wrong. I know Stokes has a poor record overall, but he has been doing better lately, so fair enough to keep him in.

not sure we will see as much turn on ODI pitches as we did for tests, maybe dawson is a slightly better option in limited overs that he ever was for tests, but not sure we need to be bowling 30 overs of spin

Maybe, but bowling 40 overs of medium fast in the past has been a losing formula when India have mainly taken pace off the ball. That's on slow, grabby pitches. Maybe things will be different, as they have been over the past couple of years. You wouldn't necessarily get 30 overs of spin, as there'd be three seamers too.

Got a feeling Dawson might come in for Mo anyway at some point, as MA's batting has been hopeless in ODIs, and Adil Rashid doesn't bowl too many leg spinners in ODIs so you don't get that reservation about both spinners turning it the same way.

i just worry a little about how expensive both moeen and rashid were at times in the test series

end of the day i doubt we are going to win many games based on our bowling, best we can hope for is the bowlers to keep it competitive and that the batting depth is good enough

The pace bowlers have been expensive in recent times too. If the pitches are good, either side will be chasing a lot of runs.

Rashid is a much better limited overs bowler, I think.

he has been better in limited overs, i was going by how the indian batsmen went after him in the tests tho, and wont be afraid to do the same in the ODIs

could see a few 350 plays 350 type games in this series

Willey was in the ICC's team of the tournament for the World T20 held in this part of the world last year. Will be a bit odd to not pick him due to conditions.

Slow batting from india A so far.
"Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow rested from England's first 50-over warm-up game here in Mumbai. Liam Plunkett out with calf injury...."
Also seems like the english press are happy strong teams, 11 players per side and a full house/good crowd in mumbai.

will be some achievement if England win the series.
England's record in India, however, isn't wholly impressive, with 15 wins in 45 matches, and just three of those coming over the last 23.

england best chance of winning a game or series considering india are not that strong at the moment and got eyes on other things.

although the article really needs to pick out some better games.
