if you read the comments i have made you will see i haven't called for his head

i have suggested that given morgan's reluctance to bowl him at the weekend that they might consider replacing him

but i thought i quite clearly stated i wouldn't drop him

if you are going to have a pop at people for their comments at least try to read them properly

Rather self centred of you there, Rich.

I was simply responding to posts over the last few months that have criticised Rashid, especially during the Test series, that his performances were not good enough.

If anything he's only done so well because Morgan has faith in him and has bowled him. One game does not change that.

well given i have been the only person on here afaik that has suggested he might get dropped after sunday's match and done so in the same thread as you replied in i thought it would have been fairly obvious your comment was directed at me

To be fair... Morgs has tended to go back to Rashid if he has cost a few runs. And England do have six bowlers... But as I say, it might be worth having a look around.

maybe i am over-reacting to how poorly rashid was used by cook during the tests and reading too much into that one ODI

as i said for me rashid has to play but i wouldn't be surprised to see dawson come into the team

it does bemuse me a little that morgan's comments after the game were mainly directed at the batting and the bowlers were given a bit of a free pass from him

personally if i was going to blame anyone for the defeat it would be morgan himself for his poor tactics

It was consistent of him to say that they needed to keep going forward in their batting innings. He had a point. Often it's Morgs that slows the SR though!

afaik it was still england's highest ever ODI score in India and whilst i agree we should have hit the accelerator a bit earlier than we did, 350 was still a score we would have happily taken before the start

England haven't played in India since the new deal though. And it's the principle more than the outcome now- they will play in a certain way and won't criticise the outcome. Of course, you can claim that's wrong, and however they go about it, 350 is enough. The commentators would agree as they accuse the players (wrongly I think) of lack of match awareness when it doesn't work. If England had got 350 by not throttling back, Morgan would have said that was fair enough. But it's how they do it that is the key.

Yeah Morgan's tactics defo need to come into question, and to be honest, he isn't jusfifying his place in the side with runs either, its time for him to pass the captaincy onto buttler, sooner rather than later

Under Morgan, we have become a very good ODI side, maybe our best ever, meaning it would be a bit harsh to sack him.

i've got nothing but credit for the guy for inheritting the team in the way he did and seeing the transformation in approach and attitude that he has been part of

he still needs to justify his spot tho and with the likes of billings and bairstow waiting in the wings i'm not sure he makes our best XI at this point in time

whether the intangibles of his man management makes up for what he adds as an individual isn't something we can really judge, but as a tactician i thought he was dreadful on sunday

Tactically he baffles me consatntly, how and why David Willey only bowled a handful of overs in that first game is beyond me...he should have bowled out, and he should have been bowling at the death!

I have no idea what he brings to the team tactically, but he is in charge of a successful team, so deserves his place.

Only if he is scoring runs which he isn't, and hasn't done for a very long time..

If you are leading a successful team, and you are out of form, but there isn't anyone banging down the door, then yeah fair enough....however he is out of form, has been for a long time, and Billings is knocking down the door, then IMO, Billings should come in.

not quite accurate andy, his average for the last 24 months is actually slightly above his career average, he didn't have a great year last year tho

i'm not saying he should be replaced because of his own performances being poor, i'll repeat i just dont think he makes it into our best XI with who we have carrying drinks

There's at least 5 better people who can take his spot IMO

Billings
Bairstow
Vince (in odi's)
Jack Leaning
Dawid Malan
