James Pattinson must also be getting close to a recall. Was scheduled to go to India before Cummins but felt he was still suffering from injuries. But he has been in the wickets at the end of this season.

It seems that if Starc can get over his injury then Australia might well have a full bunch of quicks to pick from.

Four years after they all emerged!

Is Bird forgotten so quickly, like the new Peter Siddle: slighted on the fertile prosperous days fit for gambolling and merry making; but a hard working stalwart when the season is barren and the ground turns cold and hard.

Starc, Hazelwood, Pattinson, Cummins, would be a force to be reckoned with anywhere!! Throw in Nathan Lyon and that is a serious bowling attack!

Well, aside from the fact that none of them can stay fit.

We can't afford all four at once anyway. We need as many batsmen as possible.

1.Renshaw
2.Warner
3.Smith
4.Marsh
5.Handscomb
6.Maxwell
7.Wade
8.Starc
9.Hazelwood
10.Cummins
11.Lyon

12.Pattinson

Likely to be side for OZ's next assignment, would say take out Maxwell and replace with seam bowling all-rounder out of indian conditions, but there is no one good enough..

SMarsh should be replaced with Usman.

I'd like to see Maxie replaced by Head.

Cummins will bat at 8 or 9.

Head looks a better batsman and judging by the recent ODIs Smith had more faith in his bowling as well

Can see Khawaja coming in for Marsh.

I was quite sanguine about Kohli's comment. All he was implying was that abusive conduct on the field is not forgotten when the match is over and that's something I agree with. It was the Aussies who told everyone else that what happens on the field stays there, but that always felt unjustifiable and wholly unilateral. If Kohli chooses to take offence at deliberately offensive comments then I think that's normal, even commendable.

But it does beg the question what is he saying every time he opens his mouth.

Smarsh has a horrible record at every level. I am amazed he is even picked in the first place.

Brad Hodge apologises to Virat kohli.
got huge respect for Hodge for doing that.
considering he didn't really have to apologise.

Maxwell barely bowled in India, and he's a spinner. He doesn't usually bowl the full complement of 10 in an ODI - I don't think Smith rates him as an allrounder at all.

Given that Aus have been carrying a number 6 for a while now, and Cummins, Pattinson and Starc are all pretty competent with the bat, I'd almost be tempted to play 5 bowlers:

1 Renshaw
2 Warner
3 Usman
4 Smith
5 Handscomb
6 Wade
7 Cummins
8 Pattinson
9 Starc
10 Lyon
11 Hazlewood

Sure it looks as though the tail starts at 6, but given that Cummins, Pattinson and Starc all average 25 (or more for Pattinson) in first class cricket, it's hardly a weak tail, and certainly no weaker than a bottom 6 of M Marsh, Wade, Starc, Bird, Lyon, Hazelwood. And you're going to need a lot fewer runs with a bowling unit featuring those three on Aussie pitches - that's fearsome!

Maybe if they had a 40+ averaging batter/keeper. But not with Wade at six. Wade is only just a seven. The rest are eights, sevens at a big stretch. If you want this scenario you need to give Handscom the gloves, and he's supposed to be terrible and has given them up. Then replace Wade with a batter.

Might work on flat home pitches I suppose. There is a risk of turning an advantage (lower order batting) into a weakness (a long tail).

The idea of using all four quicks together is attractive in a way. But is it really needed ? Risk is that one will be grossly underemployed unless the pitches are very flat...and , despite the fact several of them aren't exactly bunnies , they still constitute a fairly lengthy tail.
Remember too that over rates are a consideration . Lyon generally does a fair bit of bowling in Australia.

Not saying it wouldn't be an option - perhaps in Adelaide ? But - even if they are all fit at once - I doubt this would be a regular selection.

But I don't have a smart solution for the all rounder problem either...
