Ah but batsmen at seven are a waste , remember :)

a specialist batsman at #7 is a waste, when you have 2 all-rounders like stokes and ali then its fine

i'm not the one that has constantly moaned about it being a waste of Ali batting him at #7 btw or that someone is "too good" to bat that low, if the balance of the side is right then have as much batting as you can and someone has to bat that low when you have all-rounders in the team

And I wasn't having a go at you : I think we actually agree on this. The problem today (apart from the top order collectively losing it !) is at the same time we have Stokes Woakes and Moeen on the sick list...which is rather unlucky to be honest ... Three genuine all rounders and all of them missing.

i made that point yesterday when the call-ups were announced about how we were going to balance the team today with all of the genuine all-round options missing

having said that 5 of the top 6 are almost certainly in our first choice XI and all failed today, so worrying about whether the tail starts at #7 or #8 becomes a little bit academic

Yes it was pretty hard to get a truly balanced lineup today. They could have played Dawson , I suppose : but I guess they wanted to have a look at the fast bowling "spares".
As it is they might not have much time to give them all a bowl :)

if we go on form he has to replace Roy, still wouldn't say its guaranteed tho

Willey isn't doing his chances any harm either with some batting resistance. Obviously his bowling will be the real key to whether he gets a shot in the CT ; but he is reminding them of his second suit .

Which might come into calculations if , say , Woakes doesn't come up in time.

Not guaranteed as they are (reasonably enough) pretty keen to keep faith with the lineup that has been doing a job for them...and YJB is not really a regular opener.

But he just looks so good even on a day when the cream of the batting has flopped that it is starting to look a bit daft not to include him. Imagine if they leave the order unchanged and have another meltdown in the CT while Bairstow merely shows his skills with the drinks tray ? They'll be kicked to death by the Internet...

Who'd be a selector ?

It probably is the sort of match where you need to drink two glasses of wine at the same time.

The cricket is going through a dull phase so it's more entertaining for the camera to pick out good looking females in the crowd who like their drink!

She looked a bit bored until realizing the camera was on her... Should have thought there was enough action for anyone today :)

What do we think is a par score on here, 350?

Just 250 to go!
