He would have had to turn 180 degrees on the spot to not obstruct and that is a very unnatural movement.

thats the point i was making as well

it wasn't like he was running to the far end, the very act of turning meant he changed his line

To be honest, I feel the correct decision was made when it comes to Roy.

Don't feel like you can make any judgement on Livingstone after a single, albeit it poor, innings.

I'm not so sure. I've just seen it, and it looked as though he could have easily turned 180 and gone back in line.

that would have been slower than taking a wider turn imo and the whole point of changing your line when running to obstruct the field is when you are running from one end to the other and veer, the very act of turning meant he changed his line whether he did a straight 180 or took the wider turn

the other thing is if the ball hadn't hit him he wouldn't have been out anyway as it was going to miss the stumps and it looked like he would have made his ground before the ball reached the stumps

you are rewarding the fielder for hitting the runner even if it isn't hitting the stumps

He was perhaps a bit unlucky to be given out if the ball was missing the stumps, but I reckon he knew what he was doing by running in the line of the fielder and stumps. I'd like to hear his honest opinion.

i just dont think the rule was intended to cover someone turning and going back to the end they came from

going be the strict letter of the law he did veer off line and did get his body between the fielder and the stumps, but i just think the very act of turning and trying to avoid having to stop and do a 180 leaves enough doubt as to his intent

I remember Pollock obstructing Pietersen many years ago in a t20 game, think Pietersen was run out!

Watching the highlights, I think I'd have given Roy out.

You often see him getting bogged down in an innings and his wicket is often a blessing to SA to allow a more fluent batsman to get to the crease. Perhaps England were trying to keep him in!

Behardien has done okay the first two matches 65 off 52 and 32 off 21.

Only de Villiers and bairstow have scored more runs so far.
