Talking about overrates Derek Brewer and Matthew Fleming said yesterday on TMS that umpires could be fined for poor overrates.

Don't think they'll need to declare :)

The way the attacking batting has worked today rather puts the slow Cook/ Jennings/ Ballance progress into some perspective , no ? Always an easy game from in front of the TV but I did suspect it was tough batting on this : even with a less than planned lead I fancy England to win this - batting won't get any easier !

That was a very bad drop by Philander : Bairstow is the only hope to add any more runs as Dawson completes his pair...

Well yes...I highly doubt SA could chase down 280 in two sessions...I highly doubt they can chase this at all unless the pitch miraculously reforms ...

But they've certainly turned what looked like a procession to 400 , declaration , long struggle , into a contest.

Runs coming freely after lunch.

Pitch looks to have calmed down slightly.

Bairstow doing a sound job of taking singles and letting Wood smash the bowling :)

Botham introduces Warne and Bumble as the next pair of commentators and first thing Bumble says is "this is an irritating partnership"

couldn't agree more, altho he might have been meaning Wood and Bairstow irritating the South Africans
