It was always going to be a test for both teams playing in front of a full house at Lords.

Maybe it got to India in the end.

Fantastic tournament win, good team effort, and a real turnaround from 12 or so months ago.

Well done for calling it bhaves - 228 was just about par.

Been impressed how much of a team performance this has been from England - no one individual standout but important contributions from just about everybody at different stages of the tournament.

It's been a great tournament, and the vibe seems to be that this could be a real watershed moment for women's cricket. It's profile is on the rise in England, Australia (where the women's Big Bash is televised on free-to-air, although the men still get the primetime slots) and now with this run to the final, India too. And if women's cricket becomes popular in the world's biggest cricket market, the sky's the limit. I guess the next few months will tell us whether it's just the atmosphere of a good tournament, or if this really is women's cricket's time. I hope so.

One marker will be whether the England team gets recognised in Sports Personality of the Year. For all its faults, it is a fair gauge of the nation's feeling towards sports and achievements therein. A a team bringing home a World Cup in a major sport ought to be at least shortlisted for team of the year, and probably should win it. Especially since there isn't much obvious competition: in a year where there are no major tournaments in any of the men's sports, no Ashes (ok, at the end of the year, but they'll be ongoing when SPOTY airs) and no Olympics, who else is there? The English and Irish Lions, maybe (although they didn't win), and perhaps Chelsea? Bleh. I'll be voting for the cricketers!

Should also add, I thought at the time Robinson's calling time on Edwards was unfair, but I guess he's been vindicated.

Do they still call the women batsmen? They actually did up until a few years ago but not sure if that has changed.

I believe they do. Most terms have been updated to gender neutral language (fieldsman no longer exists, for example), but 'batsman' was continued, as most players consider it to be a term of the game, and not gender-specific. Ditto 'third man', which refers to a fielding position rather than the gender of the player standing there.

A bit bleary eyed this morning but I'm glad I stayed up for that...nearly gave it away a couple of times but always had the hope that another wicket might induce a bit of panic - as it did. In truth India's main weakness was a lack of the batting depth of England and Australia ; but that excellent top four made up for that most of the time - and they so nearly had this. They will be shattered to have lost ; but they've done a lot to put women's cricket on the map in India and deserve much credit.
As do England , who held their nerve under tremendous pressure. Some fine fielding (I will forgive Jenny Gunn that dolly - now) after that being a weakness early in the rounds ; and the resilience to keep coming through from tight positions with bat and ball. Worthy winners.

Fantastic final spell from Shrubsole ; who as DFM says had a fairly modest tournament (alas for my FL) but finished with a bang : winning hit with two to spare in the semi and now this destructive burst

A splendid finale to a very good tournament. Thankfully the rain didn't inflict a D/L finish on us !

Anyone know how many times the words ¨Southern Stars¨got mentioned, 3 figures would be my guess.
