Ballance has to go for good. He's not improved.

Got a snorter first dig by memory, so I'd give him a marginal pass. Did seem he didn't need to prove his form long enough for such a ordinary FC record. Not seen enough to judge the technique

He hasn't even attempted to change his game

The stats suggest root should bat 4 or 5 definitely not 3

Averages 45 at 3
56 at 4
73 at 5

All from a similar amount of matches

England team looks in disarray before the ashes likely to have 2 bad years in a row.

i'm not really a big believer in position by position stats

is there really any difference to how Root will do between coming in at 4-1 in the 6th over or 28-2 in the 12th over like he has today ?

Root clearly feels so as he's moved himself back to 4 as soon as becoming captain

he maybe does

i still dont see what actual difference it makes when he is regularly facing the same bowlers, in the same conditions, on the same pitches when he bats at 4 as he does when he bats at 3

not like we have had alot of success protecting him and him coming in after the new ball has been seen off by the top 3
