In these conditions is 353 par?

I'd say 300 was probably par if not 275 given the movement on offer

I suppose South Africa are going to show us over the next 3 hours whether 350 is a good score or not

Duminy had a disappointing test career. He was supposed to be a batting all rounder but he averaged 32 with the bat and 38 with the ball. I know it's early days and Morris is a bowling all rounder but he seems to have the same consistency problem. South Africa have a lot of pace bowling talent but the batting reserves look thin.

Morris is a bit like stokes when it comes to bowling

He's either brilliant or appalling

Either gets 3-30 or goes at 5 an over and sprays it all over the place

Woakes is your consistent all rounder who won't let you down, however he doesn't have that X factor which Stokes has.

Though both important parts of this current England team.

At least you can watch it, I'm stuck with a slow wifi connection in the wilds of south Devon, and the new cricinfo app is bad enough with normal WiFi, but it gets compacted when the WiFi is slow and is borderline unreadable!

Another enthralling day of test cricket ...reckon England might have got a little over par eventually thanks to that brilliant Stokes innings. Was a battle , against some good bowling from Philander (until off ill) Morkel and Rabada (less so Morris !) but the all rounders contributed well...

And TRJ continues an excellent debut with both SA openers in his bag already :clap

Close on the no ball then ! But he'd have been unlucky to lose that wicket after being on the (narrowly) wrong end of the lbw call on Amla.

England were unwise to review that : umpires call always likely. But it was Amla ... Fair enough he survived ; but it could be said that Cook might just as well have survived this morning on a very similar case. Luck of the game - it comes and goes.

This partnership now vital for SA
