Not a problem, with the exception of Malan, 4 to 8 is where its at.

Last chance for SA if they can rip England out for 150.

Not great series for the Essex boys (and the top three). Cook averaging 33.5 and Westley on 30.5.

Feels as though Cook should have a better average than that. He's not been outstanding, but one doesn't feel as though he's had a bad series. I suppose he's made a few starts but never gone on.

If South Africa are going to have a chance, they need to run through England from here. Even 150 all out will be a lead of 290ish, which is probably more than enough on this pitch and the forecast conditions. We should know by tea if SA will have a chance of winning this test.

In a series that's admittedly been pretty poor for batsmen from both sides (only Root, Bairstow, Elgar and possibly Stokes have made consistent contributions), Moeen's had a bit of a bad one. But his bowling has been very solid. He doesn't seem to perform with both in the same series.

I think I read that Root has equaled Edrich's record of 50 in 10 consecutive test matches for England (the world record is held by ABdV with 12). But of those 50s, only 2 were converted into 100s. He's already a very very good player, but if he could improve his conversion rate, he'd be a true great.

Wouldn't be fair to say Malan is grasping his opportunity either.

Jennings finishes the series on an average of 15.9, Malan on 8.8.

Root doesn't make a 50! Out for 49. 460 runs at 65.7.

Can't really criticise him in this game.

Weather forecast suggests no play after tea today.

Way the pitch is playing, I can't see SA getting past 200 in the fourth innings.

I'd be surprised if he isn't England's top scorer by quite a way in this innings.

Root does get criticized alot for not converting more good scores into very good scores, but I think it's a minor issue compared to England's top order. Cook is struggling aswell, or maybe that's because everyone around him consistently fails, it piles all the pressure on him.
