Next target will be making SA have to score the highest innings total of the game to win.

Another dropped catch!!

Can't really criticise him in this game.

Weather forecast suggests no play after tea today.

No critisim of him, just an observation. He is extremly consistant.

I'd be surprised if he isn't England's top scorer by quite a way in this innings..

Got that wrong!

Brilliant knock from Ali, probably cements England POTS.

Not the pitch that you expect from Old Trafford but better than one that offers nothing to the bowler. To me they are the disappointing pitches.

Off for rain. Might be it for the day, such is the forecast (and Manchester's reputation).

Well this match could go into a 5th day thanks to rain.

Like DD i would prefer a pitch that offers a bit for the bowlers. Much better than flat batting paradises.

Made me think, we've not heard from Splinters for a while.

Agree about the pitches.

Still, tough to get a ton in this series. Joe has done well to make so many runs.

But his bowling has been very solid. He doesn't seem to perform with both in the same series.

I need to criticise Moeen more often. Every time I do, he produces a performance. I was down on him at the start of the series as well, just before he took 10-fer. Great innings by him, some superb shots, and put England in an almost impregnable position. A chase of 280, as it could have been when he came to the crease, might have had the South Africans interested and in with a sniff. 360+ seems pretty much impossible given the way the pitch is playing and the forecast conditions.

Despite the forecast suggesting that there may not be much play on Tuesday, I don't see England declaring here. They only need a draw to take the series, so the weather won't concern them. They'll bat on as long as Moeen is at the crease and try and get the lead to 400+, to ensure there is absolutely no chance of a loss. And frankly, I'd be surprised if it takes them much more than 2 and a half sessions to bowl South Africa out, so the game will probably be over tomorrow at any rate.

This'll be England's first home win v SA this century. I think setting aside neutral UAE they have a win home and away against every team this century now.

I might be correct though, Holding and england players looked certain.

In real time it looked dead, but that always happens when the bat scrapes something else on the way through.
