After reading Manjrekar's comment on WI's batsmen, I thought for 5-6 minutes to remember one established WI player with a FC average of over 40 in the last 20 years, and I could think of just one! And it was Gayle. And then you have to think of the current team as Kraigg Brathwaite and Chase average over 40 in first-class cricket.

Not Darren Bravo, Sarwan, Ganga, Wavell Hinds, Marlon Samuels, Adrian Barath and Lendl Simmons. Maybe Morton and Devon Smith have an average of just under 40.
Of course, no need to consider Garrick, X Marshall, Griffith, S Joseph, R Ramdass, Chatergoon, Parchment, L Roberts, R Samuels, Ragoonath, Reifer and many more.

Chanderpaul has a pretty impressive first class average, Grey. He only retired because he was forced out and I get the feeling that he'd answer the call if it ever came.

Shiv?

The ball looks good under lights on tv, not much benefit in sunlight.

Yes, but he made his Test debut in 1994. So didn't consider him. Obviously, harsh treatment meted out by the board.

From memory didnt Shiv average about 15 in his last 2 series against SA and England?

I know at the end of his career he made some runs at home, but was he not a spent force when he retired? A shell of the batsman that he was.

His form nosedived at the end of the BD series a few years back. Went to south Africa and looked out of sorts, then did terribly a couple of series after. He was over 40 at that point and the selectors felt 3-4 very bad series spelled out the death of his career. Given his career, he maybe deserved another series or two, but forced out is strong. He looked over

Making_Splinters wrote:I wonder what we'll see today, the pitch has been very flat and supposedly the pink ball stops swinging after not too many overs. The West Indies batting attack is nothing special - to put it mildly - but if one or two of them get in then they should be making tons.

We need early wickets, and Jimmy looked pretty threatening, have to feel that Moeen will have a big role to play.

I think England may will get in a situation where they have option to enforce follow-on.

Didn't take long to get a break this afternoon...snorter from Jimmy : man had no Hope handling that :)

I see the extra early half hour didn't actually happen. Not that they'll need it , I think.

Play was due to start half an hour early, then it rained.

Another, ridiculous run out given the situation the Windies find themselves in.

Yeah I got that ...was just amused at how the good old British weather confounds the best laid plans...

Daft run out then. Top fielding from Anderson , but West Indies didn't need that.

Could be a quick collapse here.
