Anderson has a couple of wickets with the older ball, which a good sign.

According to Cricbuzz's Australian correspondent, other than his first spell at the WACA, when Anderson bowled a bit too full, he was good in the first game. Of course, I only saw a couple of wickets via videos and it was reversing. Last year, too, it reversed for Rabada and Philander at the WACA.

In this game, Short's scalp was also a result of a brilliant catch by Bairstow - according to reports.

Milenko, the journeyman all-rounder, have a great time against Overton.

From 57-5 to 205-7. This follows the pattern of the last whitewash with a lack of penetration with a 30+ over old ball, whether from the pace bowlers or a spinner who averages nearly 40.

Not many pointers so far as to who will be the fourth pace bowler.

A second wicket for Crane. Not going to happen, but maybe a minute of discussion behind the scenes will go on considering him instead of a third seamer.

You'd have to think that that was due to a request from CA.

Which is a pity - as, like most here (it seems) - I like Paine, I rate him as a 'keeper/batsman, and think that his career was basically ruined by having to participate in a stupid exhibition match.

Paine is probabl the only keeper not being given a go at present. He is never going to set the world alight with his batting, but with the situation Australia is in at present, you would think that he should be in consideration.

Would be great to hear the DA selectors thoughts and justification for some of their selections of late.

Would love to see Paine re-called to aussie side he's a class act with bat and gloves, real shame injury wrecked his career!

Simon Milenko, the journeyman, has taken a four-fer now. England in tatters. The think-tank would be thinking, "if Milenko can take four then"?
