Ajinkya and Rahul had a good nets session followed by Parthiv. However, I doubt Parthiv will replace Saha. The other two replacements look very likely.

Not sure whether the changing of players is going to solve the basic weaknesses, but change will be done. Too much pressure on Team India in terms of selections.

Good post Adi, I agree with all of it. Although in the interests of pedantry I will point out that India did win in England in 2007 in what was a very good series, thanks to some heroics from Tendulkar, Kumble and Zaheer Khan especially. I still remember watching Tendulkar's battle with the England quicks on the third morning at Trent Bridge as one of the finest displays of batting against swing bowling that I have seen. I particularly recall watching it with the mother of all hangovers, it coming the day after my stag do...

Good to know that we won one series in England in 2007. So i take it that we have won 1 series in England, SA or Australia in 27 years !! I am taking 1990 as start year.

Some shocking news coming up in media:

India vs South Africa: Team management rejected BCCI's idea to send Test regulars early to acclimatise, claims report"The BCCI was ready to bear the cost, but India team management showed no interest and declined the offer,” a BCCI official said.

“We were even ready to let top players skip One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 (T20) legs of the series against Sri Lanka.”

Also lot of criticism is being done for selection of Dhawan and Rohit over Rahul and Ajinkya. Virat and Shastri under tremendous pressure. Players will have more say in the team than coach, as we saw in Virat -Kumble issue, however Shastri needs to keep the blunders under check and look to avoid blunders. Just keeping Vira thappy is not going to keep the team winning overseas.

Morris, Andile, Duanne... so many players to replace Steyn.

They just have to decide whether they will replace Steyn with all rounder or specialist bowler.

Certainly seems that getting rid of Kumble has not helped.

Kohli got to much power?

Indian captains have lot of power, certainly more than coach, especially if the captain is as successful as Virat Kohli. The dispute between Virat & Kumble was about remuneration as well as selection. It is tough to say who was wrong in that, but ultimately Virat had the last say. Whereas these two seem well bonded but their approach is being heavily criticized now by almost all Indian fans and media including ex cricketers. Shastri is the head coach. He should not be agreeing with Virat to "No practice matches". How did Shastri agree with Virat that practice match was not required. It is more ridiculous if both of them thought so than if it was just the opinion of one. Virat wants someone to say "YES" always.

A successful coach and Captain is when they complement each other well and not always agreeing with each other.
Kumble and Kohli probably worked well as a team because they both were different in what they bring to india, Shastri on the other hand is in the same wavelength as kohli so it doesn't often work considering they both wont really see the other side of the argument.
Shastri is far more likely to be a yes man to kohli as well.

Didn't like the way they removed kumble either.

not really a good sign if they basing it on the wicket either since I reckon both team batted poorly on the deck and the clear sign for that was that Bhuvi kumar of india came very close to facing the most ball in the test match and he bats at number 9 for india.
plus the bowling was top class from both teams.

plus rain changed the conditions, without the rain batting would have gotten easier, the rain basically made it a day 1 deck again.
awful decision really to award it a poor pitch.

If we're judging the pitch by the game that was played on it, then there shouldn't be any complaint. Pretty standard for Cape Town to be bowler friendly too.

Ngidi is apparently a very fast prospect. He could be a handful at Centurion his home ground.

Of course in that series in England, India played four warm up matches, including 3 first class, against decent opposition...

Less than 48 hours now.

I read that the movement will not be much during this test. So we will definitely fare relatively much better in absence of swing. The worst on this tour is past us.
