Na no need for Kuldeep, don't take 3 spinners to SA! barely need 2!

Erm no, I don't support India. I think everyone knows that (no more discussions on this please).

Coming to the cricket, if I were to be an Indian selector, I would pick Kuldeep over Ashwin and Jadeja in the first place in any case. Its just that I don't expect that to happen hence the recommendation to take the extra spinner to play if both of them fail (which in my opinion is an inevitability). Not that the BCCI can't afford an extra ticket! It probably won't happen though, agreed.

lol okay :d'oh:

Gonna be a terrific series, looking forward to it...IMO Ashwin should be the no1 spinner, don't think he will bat 6 though, think he will be at 7 or 8, Hardik at 6, with Saha and Ashwin fighting it out for 7 or 8

Ishant seem to be able to get his wrist behind the ball and releasing the ball with a good seam position and with him hitting the deck type of bowler, plus great fitness and able to bowl donkey overs he should be a shoe in for the 3rd seam option considering he is the perfect bowler india are looking for the 3rd option which allows Shami and bhuvi to bowl shorter and more attacking spells.

so I agree with Red team.
Seems like the 5th bowling option is between Saini, Thakur and Bumrah.

The squad getting announced today or tomorrow.

Suspect it will be announced the test team going to SA early so it is possible india will be playing odi in india with the test team in SA.
won't do an Australia though and play 2 games in different continents in the same day.

Bit disappointed with the Odi squad/t20 squad.
why the test team will be playing the odi games are beyond me and in the top of that kohli expected to play the T20 series a week before the Test series which is stupid.
looks like kohli playing the 3rd test as well.

Yeah i hope Ishant is considered...useful bowler, more consistent than he used to be, will always a remain a frustrating bowler though, so much talent, but has been so inconsistent over the years..

He'll be a pain - AB is always going to be a huge danger. Having him and a fit Steyn back would make SA favourites IMO

Probably going to be a massive series for rahane.
Considering at the moment he is regarded as someone that is more likely to score runs away from Home but ok or average at home.
So he does now need to maintain 45-50 average away from home to justify his spot in the team

I notice Rahane lost the ODI vice captaincy to Rohit, but does he still hold the test vice captaincy?

I'd say it's a bigger series for the likes of pujara and ashwin who need to show they can contribute away from the sub continent

Pujara should be ok does look to have the same to succeed and did play few good innings in green decks although both times in Asia and against Sri Lanka but he does looks to have the game and temperament to succeed although it is a different matter if he will score runs since number 3 is a tough place to bat and he will generally face the toughest bowlers and toughest conditions.
Ashwin should do better but I think his success or jadeja succsss depends on the fitness of India seam bowlers more specifically shami and bhuvi.
If Ashwin is the 4th or 5th bowler he will succeed and likely play the Lyon and Swann role but if he asked to do an murali then he his likely to fail since I can’t see him taking 10 wickets in a game outside Asia.
TBH their a reason why overseas spinners fail in India and Indian spinners fail outside Asia and a lot of times it is due to the fact they have no support at the other end, just like Lyon got no one backing him in Asia to take wickets or build pressure, like wise it is moronic to expect Ashwin to take 10-12 wickets outside Asia per game.
Even at the Gabba last week when the pitch was helping the spinners Lyon struggled to take bucketful of wickets although he bowled really well just that spinners should not be expected to be the main wicket takers here they are the support bowlers.

It Ashwin is able to play the supporting role he should do fine but if he is asked to be the main wicket taking option then he will fail.

From those two names I not too worried about Ashwin since he should do ok this time around and finger cross India best fast bowling attack stays on the pitch and he doesn’t really have to bowl much apart from tie an end for the pace men or if needed win a test in the last day.
Pujara is more of a worry hopefully he does well but I don’t really see how he can fail overseas.
Pretty surprised he failed last time around considering he was meant to be the banker of the side and seeing him bat in Kolkata and the Colombo test it was surprising he failed but then he could just be a Ballance where when faster or better bowlers Bowl his technical problems show up and he fails.
Good thing for him in his favour is that India got a strong batting line up so he shouldn’t in theory be underpressure to score runs and most of the team India facing not got a strong batting line Up so scores should be low so India should be chasing the game either.
