ICC Under-19 World Cup

Postby Aidan11 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 12:04 pm

Can't see a thread for this.

Started today with 4 games.

SA v WI is live on Sky. SA were struggling early on but looked to have pulled back a decent enough total. Especially as WIs are struggling in their innings.

Good total posted for England. Should be more than enough for UAE.

We have a formidable team this time as well. Some excellent batting talents their. Vijay,Sanju and Mumbaite Sarfaraz are special for their age level.Sarfaraz is superb.Akhil Herwadkar is also a handy bat from what we have seen in club level as well as in Asia cup.

Having won the Asia cup last month, the confidence will be very high.

Windies were shocking with the bat earlier! Chasing 198 i believe....they were 35-6 before being bowled out for 108!

As mentioned by Adi, Vijay Zol, Sanju Samson and Sarfaraz Khan are the 3 prodigious young Indian batting talents in this year's U19 WC.
Watch out for Kuldeep Yadav too. A rare commodity - left arm chinaman.

Looking forward to the match against Pak tomorrow. Great that it starts immediately after the Test.

The openers provided a good start. Akhil impressed when i watched him at couple of club level matches. Although he played a decent innings today and an impressive one in many aspects, i am disappointed that he missed out on a 50. :no

This looks like a low scoring match. The ball is not bouncing much even after 18 overs using two balls.Offcourse it is Dubai and these are U-19 bowlers who bowl at lesser speeds than we see at club level . I am impressed with how the leggie Karamat has bowled. I guess he will make into Pakistan international team after few years.

Pakistan have come back very well into this match as scorecard reads 94/4 in 22.2 overs.Technically Sanju is easily the best batsman in our top 3.Akhil comes second best technically imo. Won't be easy batting second though.

interesting to see the speeds of the opening bowlers, they kept it very tight at the start as well to be fair - certainly did much better than the Pak opening pair. the Ind opening bwoelers were clocking around 137 kmph, so about the same speed as Ishant. Ind should be making sure they nurture and work with these bowlers to develop them

Pak pace bowlers were definitely not as quick as our bowlers.Whatever Wasim said about their pacers regarding pace turned out to be false.Their pacers mostly operated around 131-132.The issue is that our pacers failed to take wicket with the new ball, which imo is crucial. So we can say they did a decent job in their opening spells but we have to hope they pick wickets in next match rather than leave the job to spinners to take wickets of opponents specialist batters.Opening bowlers have to strike and give some breakthrough for the spinners.

Yes, encouraging from the bowlers.

Sarfaraz, at 16, looks a class above most under 19 players. Really hope he gets an opening in the Ranji Trophy soon.
