If the guy hadn't been out of crease I reckon it would be fair for the umpire to call a no ball in view of the Finn amendment!

He didn't go into his delivery, just ran up and knocked them over. But would have been poetic justice.

What a sad way to end a thrilling game of cricket. Thankfully, I was not doing Text commentary while this sad incident happened. It left a sour taste.

No warning, last wicket, Zimbabwe can not even retaliate. just out of the crease, no more than 1 cm. By the law out, but that's not good play by WI.

Lets hope in the next WI game that the opposition does this a few times to them. Just so they know how it feels? Hopefully they are batting second so can not respond. Opened a can of worms here.

Arthur Crabtree wrote:No warning. I thought the mankading of Buttler was fair enough, he'd been warned and was a long way out many times. Not so sure about this. Given the general tolerance towards the transgression, quite probably WI won because Zimbabwe didn't mankad when they could have done. It'd be more honest, given the convention, to tell the opposition at the start of the game what your intentions are.

By 'general tolerance' I mean to say that there is a lack of tolerance for carrying out the mankad, an expectation that it won't happen.

The game ending like this feels worse, than if it had happened in the middle of the game.

Under 19 as well!

that is one of the most disgraceful things i have ever seen on a cricket ground

although it is in the laws that is just not cricket

it is truly saddening that such a young player would stoop to that level to win and what was just as bad was the way the teammates celebrated the "victory"

the zimbabwe coach summed it up perfectly saying

"at youth cricket you want to teach them sportmanship, you want to teach them to win with honour"

im just glad it wasnt an english player as i would be embarrassed

I be embarrassed full stop.
I am ok if the mankad is justifiable just like Buttler or the Thrimanne situation with some warning.
But this was outright cheating literally no warning and the bowler did it to get a wicket to win the game.
The Batsman wasn't even out of his crease literally did everything right like the coaching manual says, I even remember this drill from my cricket days where you walk outside the crease while your bats in the line/over the line.
Batsman was unlucky if only he kept the bat just slightly over the line, but frankly speaking most batsman have the bat at the line or just short of the line.

Do you normally do text commentary, GB? Let us know the next time you are, so we can message you....
:)
Not impressed by the the way this happened, or by the celebrations afterwards.

That said, it's time the ICC did something about it. Either it's legal to run a non-striker out like that, or it isn't. It's not cheating if it's not against the law...and the umpires upheld the appeal.

They should add that a warning must be given to the batsmen

i.e the bowler states that he is willing to mankad him as he feels like he is seeking an Un fair advantage which is fair enough

Doing what that bowler did I'm fairly certain you could take a wicket in the first ball of every match

That might not be a bad thing, BFP...it would force non-strikers to stay in their crease. Until the law changes, I don't have a huge problem with it. Are non-strikers judged by a different standard than batsmen facing bowlers? I don't see much difference between what happened, and this:

We're in an era where batsmen who know they've knicked the ball don't walk...that's "cheating" too, isn't it? so I don't get too excited about "unsporting" behaviour in cricket any more.

I would be on a few PSL and AUS v NZ games. In fact, I was on this SA v ENG match, but took a break. Looking at the scorecard, I am feeling good that I took a break, ha. Sadly, unlike Cricinfo, I don't think there is an interactive feature, where you can send messages during the course of a match at Cricbuzz. There was one during the ICC World Cup 2015, but they seem to have taken it off.

Seems like it is not just the senior Pakistan team who struggle with their middle to lower order batting.
