For once, it wasn't Holder who did the damage...pacers Alzarri Joseph (3-39) and Ryan John (3-38) bowled India out for just 145. Even then, we collapsed to 77-5, before Keacy Carty (52 not out) and allrounder Keemo Paul (40 not out) saw us home to a five-wicket win!

Light at the end of the tunnel? I wouldn't bet my house on it though.

I wonder how many of this WIs squad will go on to become test players, or maybe just T20 specialists. Or even make the grade at all.

I've heard lots of good things about Alzarri Joseph. Keemo Paul seems decent. I don't know about the others.

That's the question....

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/co ... 72521.html

"It doesn't necessarily follow that success at a global age-group competition leads to success at the higher level. Today is only the second time West Indies have contested the final. They were beaten by Pakistan, also in Bangladesh, in 2004. No one in either of those sides has even half the 74 Tests and 129 ODIs of Denesh Ramdin, the West Indies captain in that tournament, who is still going after an international career of a dozen years. Once they outlive the age limit, some top teens drift away from the game into other pursuits; others won't develop sufficiently to qualify for Test or limited-overs selection....After West Indies' victory over Pakistan in the quarter-final, Allott said the pace from Joseph and late replacement Chemar Holder, and the aggression of the batting, took him back to the West Indies heyday....The obvious questions now are whether the players can carry the benefits of such experiences forward to first-class and eventually international level, and whether their best can somehow be kept away from the financially enticing clutches of mushrooming T20 franchise tournaments....For two decades, the next step for the emerging young players has been the West Indies A team. The last time it was engaged was in Sri Lanka a year and a half ago; it has never ventured into Australia or New Zealand....It is pertinent that the boys in Bangladesh don't yet have to concern themselves with contracts, T20 leagues and their relationships with the WICB. Such potential problems lie ahead."

Hetmayr has played FC cricket in the Caribbean, and I must admit, I'm not impressed by him. He looks like another Chandrika to me. But here are the ones I have some hopes for:

Shamar Springer - averaged 57 with the bat, and took seven wickets with his pace.

Keemo Paul - averaged 41 with the bat, and took seven wickets with his pace.

Gidron Pope - averaged 38 with the bat, and seven wickets with his spinners.

Alzarri Joseph - took 13 wickets with his pace.

Chemar Holder - took five wickets with his pace at an ER or just 3.03.

Ryan John - took six wickets at an ER of 3.73 with his pace.

These are the six players who need to make the transition in FC cricket....

I've been most impressed by Springer.

A shame that any hope that this West Indies Under 19s team has will be destroyed by the inept politics of their board

I think you're being harsh on Hetmayr - had an brain melt with his dismissal today but he seems to have a good temperament to me.

Springer and Paul are potentially useful all-rounders in the short form of the game, but Joseph and Holder look like real quality opening bowlers who should tranisiton into the WI side.

Pope has been great, but I think he'd have to work on fitness levels and composure in order to make the grade - there's raw talent there though.

The Ind opening bowlers look quite good as well and could make the step up relatively soon, and Washington Sundar looks like a real prospect as a spin bowling all-rounder - he's only 16 I think and he's been one of the stars of this tournament. Other than that, Pant looks like a useful opening bat but his wk has a long way to go if he's going to make the step up.

Suspect Australian players might feel gutted right now, missed a great opportunity to play at a world event and show the world what future talent they have in the team.

Enjoyed watching this tournament always a good watch.
Still can't believe South Africa and NZ struggled plus West indies were couple of runs away from finishing 9th yet they won the championship.
Did say loads of teams can win it on the day.
Afghanistan were probably disappointed they didn't do that well but they did have a tough draw and finishing 9th isn't that bad really.

Just saw the Kenyan team and looks like there are two players from the same village/ community as me in the team.
A Bhudia and a hirani.
My cousin will be please a 2nd bhudia to play cricket for a international team.
Wonder when someone from my surname plays cricket lol.

Be so mint if they are from madhaphur though.
Not surprised their quite a few from our community in the team, last time I heard it was mostly our community playing cricket in the team from the age groups.
