I'm not sure what to think, apart from why can't they all grow the hell up. The amount of trash talk on the cricket field these days is stupid. Australia seem to be a particularly bad offender, but they're not the only ones. England do it, India do it, West Indies do it. Let the bat and ball do the talking!

Yes. SA are quite bad at it so it's not like the Aussies were unprovoked. But it's a sad state of affairs. There will always be a few hotheads like Wee Davey, but they are encouraged by the culture around them. The captain and coach and the team ethic should be restraining factors, but that kind of context doesn't exist anymore. For the big teams anyway.

If the England team, captain and coaches could cocoon James Anderson from the consequences of his behaviour at TB against India then the game seems quite lost in terms of competitive values.

Sounds like Australia are playing the ECB "Jadeja" card here. When your player is out of order, counter accuse the victim, make it too confused for an umpire to make a decision. Regardless of what was said, Warner's reaction is there for all to see, and he should really be punished for it.

I am waiting to see what happens to Warner. I don't know if - by the rules - it is something that warrants an actual ban, but it looks like it is something that he deserves, considering his history and all.

I don't imagine that 15 % match fee fine is very severe, but what was the actual charge against Lyon? I've seen far worse send-offs totally ignored in the recent past.

Warner should know better. He is the vice captain and been around long enough to know that is not acceptable.

I just don't buy the excuse of provocation. Like SP says, teams use it a lot, but these are just words. And if you give it out, then it will come back. After all a team captained by a convicted ball tamperer is hardly going to abide by some make believe line in the sand as to what is acceptable when it comes to an insult. Warner must realise that if he is going to give it out, then he will get it back from the SA players. It will get personal, as it did with Gilly in the past.

He has two options, don't give it out and then fair enough complain about how they said bad things about your wife. Or do what Gilly did and use it to focus your batting, and make them pay by scoring runs.

Looking at the footage, i think CA should strip Warner of the VC.

So, both de Kock and Warner have been charged - de Kock with a level one, Warner with a level two offence, meaning that a suspension is a possibility.

Possible, but not likely, imo. #toothlesstiger #growasetICC

de Kock found guilty anyway. Warner is fined 75% of his match fee, De Kock 25%, but both avoid suspension. Presumably at least Warner will be on a 'one more strike'...

Yes, he copped three demerit points, which leaves him in the same spot as Rabada and Faf - one more transgression and he gets a ban.

Will he have enough control? How much will the Seffers try to goad him?

Warner on a reason he lost control:

“Then walking up the stairs and saying ’I didn’t say anything’ as soon as the rest of his team-mates came out. We’re all men and if you’re going to say something, you look someone in the eye and say it.”

Seems like there's a weird etiquette of abusing your opponent. It's ok if you speak clearly and maintain eyeline.

And when will other teams understand what level of abuse is acceptable and what is not?

Maybe its time for Australia to write up a list of insults that teams can use, and a list that is strictly against the spirit of the game. Then everyone can get back to insulting each other in a nice way with out having to worry about someone getting angry because they said an inappropriate insult.

Tbh just read an article that austrlaia players were taking a piss at De Kock surname.
Really what did Australian players really expect if you start sledging players like that and reality is it was only a matter of time before someone lost it.

From what I can gather Australian players have becoming very close and their sledging as becoming over the top, think English players in the last series said a lot of the sledges went out of hand and their didn’t report it because of the Aussie media and they didn’t want to act like cowards.
Although they did try their best to leak all this to the English press and at the same time say they didn’t want to complain about it which was weird.

Again what has been proven is that umpires are useless in stopping this and icc never really seem to care to stop it even after so many bad situation in recent years.

It is a disgrace that personal sledging is allowed in the field and of course everyone got a different line of what their consider personal or offensive.
Might not be offensive to the Australian players and a bit of fun to take the piss out of De Kock name but it was obvious he didn’t like it.

Ian Chappell saying smith and Lehmann should be banned for allowing warner to sledge.
For someone that follows Australian cricket and generally says sledging is getting out of hand and only a matter of time before their is a fight in a cricket match and probably got access to the stump mics.
In the last similar incident I believe Anderson said something personal to jadeja and he lost it as well.
