The commentators were suggesting Rabada might either have a niggle or be fatigued , his pace was apparently down in the first innings. I suppose a conservative approach makes sense because SA just need a draw to win the series.
Markram became the second fastest SA batsman to make 1000 test runs ( Graeme Smith holds the record ) and only Mike Hussey has reached 1000 runs in test cricket in fewer days ( Markram 186 days since his debut and Hussey 166.) Let's hope he hasn't peaked too soon before the main event - opening for Durham.

hopefully this test series will have been frosty enough for him to get used to opening in the arctic conditions at the riverside

Apparently in NZ an England fan handed some sandpaper to Ross Taylor and asked for his autograph - he signed in and then put in down his ( Taylors) pants!

SA now 540 ahead ...still batting.

I guess they're a bowler down ; presumably they've no wish to bowl any more than they're forced to.

Cummins at least picks up his fourth for the innings...he has a big heart.

But in a way a fizzled out draw might be the appropriate end to a series which will be remembered largely for the wrong reasons. Perhaps it will rain tomorrow and make sure of it.

They could be two bowlers down - commentators saying Rabada has a stiff back.

South africa 344-6 at tea.

Bavuma 35 not out.

Philander 33 not out.

They might bat out the rest of the day if they can.

What do I know?
South Africa declared setting a target of 612.

so much for SA's injury crisis. Both Rabada and Morkel are bowling
