Are England batting on the same pitch as New Zealand? 134/0 off 18, Bairstow takes Sodhi for 22 off one over (and five sixes in 2 overs). All far too easy for England at present.

Bairstow makes a hundred off just 58 balls! :clap

Back to back hundreds, and his ODI average (temporarily at least) touches 50! If he can get to 153, or stay not-out, he'll keep it there...

A few records here - 3rd fastest ODI ton for England, fastest ton made by a visitor in New Zealand, or against New Zealand anywhere (beating Sehwag's 60-ball effort in Hamilton in 2009).

Oops, mockers time.

Judging from the last ODI, England can still lose from here.

The inevitable wobble - 155/0 to 192/3. It's not on a Dunedin scale yet, but with less than 1.5 runs per over needed, there really is no need to be smashing boundaries and getting caught here. Just tap the singles.

Superbly chased. Seen most previous England players take such chases to 40 or 48 overs. Trott, KP, Bell etc never scored at SR of 173 in chase. They used to score at the most SR of 130. But these new generation players like Jason, Jos, Jonny, Alex have all shown they are not plodders like the ex cricketers. A reason why England is scoring more 300s.

Is this the best SR innings ever for England player scoring over 100 runs?

Think Jason must be up there or Jos. Only those two are capable of innings like this. Ben can score briskly as I saw him score one of the best IPL 100 amongst 10 seasons from a precarious scorecard position. Don't ex cricketer would have scored 100 so quickly.

That was a hammering like Sri Lanka used to hand out to England in the noughties.

Good series with several close games. But not that one.

As ever, the Kiwis lead in the spirit of the game, and seem to get the best out of the opposition in that respect too.

Comparison of two batting lineups.

Batting lineup comparison.JPG

The previous batting lineup is very poor as compared to this new approach batters.

The new look batters have played 320 innings less but are lagging by just 6 tons. The conversion of 100's of this group is much better than conversion of 100's of the previous batch.

None of those previous batters have a score above 150, which is pathetic. There are already two scores over 150 (Jason 180 and Alex 171) by the new players.

Top 5 players for 100 conversions:

1. JE Root-10.89
2. Jonny-9.52
3. AD Hales-8.77
4. KP Pietersen-7.31
5. Jason-7.14

Only KP from the previous list is there , but he is languishing at 4th and seems that he might be at 5 once Jason Roy plays more matches.

I'm not much of a mathematician Adi but those innings per ton stats don't look right.

It's number of 100 per 100 innings.

Only Strauss had highest score of 158. I missed it in previous post. Whereas the newbies have 2 scores over 150 and much higher ones.

The SR of the newbie batsmen is just amazing. In all innings over 100 runs minimum, the highest SR of the new batters is much higher than that of the previous batch.
Jos has 100+ innings at SR 223.07. Today Jonny made the 2nd highest SR of 173.33. None from the previous batters have a 100+ score with SR of even 150.

I guess these newbie must also be excelling in the important combination ratio of average and SR.

Well done to England. Two wins from two series down under. Neither Australia nor New Zealand are easy to beat at home - NZ have only lost one home ODI series in the past three years, and went undefeated at home in the WC.

This should push England up to no. 2 in the world as well (I think).

They're not a perfect side, but then, no side is at present. They have to have as good a chance as anybody the WC next year, barring calamity between now and then (anything can happen - this is England, after all).

130? More like 80

Bairstows average as an opener must be very high

Bairstow as an opener

16 matches, 4 hundreds, average 62, strike rate 102

If my maths is correct
