Both are going to tell you they didnt go out to hit the ball around, that they showed patience, but its almost like there is a mentality in their head that they will block anything for 5 balls, then they have cash in the bank to throw the bat at something for one ball an over. We see time and time again that players with lower strike rates get out, or flirt consistently, with balls that are not there to be hit.

I mean at one point when Bairstow was on about, what, 15 runs he got beaten by a snorter, then clearly decided the next ball he was going to smash it..... ball whistled past the edge. The players dont really seem to get whats required of batting properly. Whats the point of blocking 20 balls in a row if you are then going to risk smashing one that isnt there to be hit?? Thats why I have to celebrate Cookie this innings. It hasnt been picture perfect, but at least he is waiting to play strokes when he gets bad balls.... and realises if he blocks 20 balls, he will get bad balls to hit.

Some of these players bat like horny teenagers...

With this batting line up it's like watching groundhog day

They do the same thing every innings

Maybe England should have played a test against Ireland as a warm up for this series?

TBH I am baffled how Bayliss still got the test job he been awful, he clearly doesn't know how to fix it either and Test team gone backwords so much while he been in charge.
the excuse for the white ball focus isn't a valid reason considering other teams can manage all 3 formats but it did shock me that during Root 1 year test interview on sky he spent 70% of the time talking about White ball cricket, which did shock me a lot considering he doesn't even captain the format and how have we got to a stage where they spent a lot of time talking about white ball cricket when the main topic for discussion was test.

TBH quite funny listening to him considering he calls out the best players from the opposition as crap and that player is often the reason why england struggle as well.
Always funny listening him having a rant at england players as well.

TBH Ireland is the best warm up you can have since you playing 5 days tick, bowlers are First class standard tick, green pitch tick and Test match intensity tick.
would rank it higher than having a counties warm up match where the bowlers are *modded* and the pitch is flat and no intensity in the game.

I am surprised he is still there, especially when he said he wasnt interested in the job in the longer term. Although I cant really blame him for what is going wrong. There has to be more to it then him not coaching players coming into the international team right. Players should be arriving to standard, and they simply are not.

The problems imo are lower down.

yeah the troubles are deeper but not sure Bayliss got the best out of the group he was given.
with the players he got I still expect better results from him.
England can't even claim their home record good considering In the last 20 test at england they lost 7 and drew 1.

It's also confusing how ramprakash is still batting coach

Not sure I'd want a guy who failed miserably in test cricket coaching the national team in the first place
