Yeah i agree. Was suprised he got the call up, and is no quicker than 80mph, but we are struggling at the moment, he is a useful bat, but i expect Woakes to bat above him

Christ. When I watch England they never fail to disappoint, when I decide maybe work is more important they roll over a side within two sessions.

No scoreboard pressure here. England should really put this game to bed in the next day

Similiar trend to last test already...england SHOULD go on from here, but our batting is so fragile no gurantee!

Easier conditions now though. So England should be able to get a decent score.

Headingley can get ultra-flat. We'll see.

Always been the critique, that he bowls almost medium pace. What speeds were we seeing, high 70s or low 80s.

I remember years ago a coach talking about a very young Abdul razzaq, saying you can work with a bowler without tinker his action much as a teen, and expect to add 5 meh through strength related stuff. But is he's in the 70s it might not matter.

Having said that, people can succeed at lower paces. But you need everything else to be top notch. He's not tall, in fact I think he's tiny. Left arm, skidder...has to work on moving it both ways and creating difficult angles. He won't get much bounce or seam at his height

From what i watched today, England had a much better length. Woakes bowled a fuller length than the short stuff Woods was asked to bowl. Anderson also seemed to bowl fuller as well. Broads opening spell set this match up for England. Woakes and Anderson drove home the advantage.

Woakes is just a superior player. Wood may have had it, but a bowler not playing much in his 20s for 3 years, he's certainly looked like he lost it.

I think in the modern game though pace is so much more important. With so many flat pitches going round, bowling 80mph even with guile wont help a bowler much now. Useful in England when conditions suit, but hard work on a tour to Australia.

Atherton once said you need two of three things to make it in tests. Movement, pace and accuracy....

Think that's spot on. If he can learn from the master next to him, to swing the ball both ways, pace don't matter.

My opinion anyway

As long as someone in the team bowls pace. If you go into flat conditions with 3 similar bowlers who are not quick, well then you get results like you do in Australia.

2 edges in the first over, played with soft hands though. Paksitans best hope is now with the new ball.

Both batsman using the edge here...surely the breakthrough is coming

England's specialist batting ends at four. That can't have happened before this series.

Jennings is just struggling a little at the moment.
