On the appointment of Wee Davey to a commentary role, Nine’s director of sport, Tom Malone, said:

People have tried to paint Dave as the villain in all this, but he’s been hurting as much as the others. He just wants to atone for his mistakes and move on – I hope Australia gives all of them that chance.

So who are the villains, if not Bancroft, Smith and Warner?

Interesting, if not robust moral philosophy being employed by C9 whereby the guilty party becomes a victim of their guilt.

Squads:

ENgland have the XI who played against Scottish associates and lost:

Bairstow/Roy/Root/Morgan/Billings/Buttler/Willey/Moeen/Rashid/Plunkett/Wood.
Plus Ball/Woakes/Stokes/Hales/Curran.

I'd guess the rhyming all rounders will come in for Billings and Willey.

Australia have sent a squad weakened by injuries and suspensions.

Finch/Short/S.Marsh/Head/Maxwell/Stoinis/Paine/Agar/K.Richardson/Tye/Stanlake/J.Richardson/Lyon/Narey/Neser.

A few unfamiliar names there touring UK for the first time at baggy green level. Stars of the future or destined to make way when Mitches 2&3, Haze and the hurting Smith and Warner return?

After seeing the Scotland performance its a shame that Australia could not take the time to play a game against either them or Ireland. Such a long way to come for a few games. Would help grow the game a bit.

Not sure. Shame if that is the case.

This tour is pretty pointless.

Yes. Should be playing a three match series v Pakistan rather than five v Australia. Might be my mid life ennui talking but it feels like these series v Australia have been cheapened through repetition.

Cricinfo's predicted team, which has three players in one slot. But indicates there is no Stokes or Woakes but JB2 returns.

1 Jonny Bairstow, 2 Jason Roy, 3 Alex Hales, 4 Joe Root, 5 Eoin Morgan (capt), 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Adil Rashid, 9 Liam Plunkett, 10 Tom Curran/David Willey/Jake Ball, 11 Mark Wood

Presumably their Aus XI is a guess. And I'm not expecting Aussie Tim to walk out at number six.

1 D'arcy Short, 2 Travis Head, 3 Marcus Stoinis, 4 Shaun Marsh, 5 Aaron Finch, 6 Tim Paine (capt & wk), 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Michael Neser, 9 Jhye Richardson, 10 Kane Richardson, 11 Billy Stanlake

Good start for the oft-criticized (not unfairly !) Willey. Aus 7/1

Decent start for the Aussies too.

Michael Neser is a new name to me.
