I know I'd get lynched for saying this in India but....there was something more than a little bit dodgy about Dhoni's innings today.

Plenty of people saying something similar on HYS on the BBC. It's not the first time he has played that sort of innings. He often seems to me to play too many dot balls early in his innings but usually catches up. Something certainly wasn't right with him today but there are several possibilities as to what that could be.

Except MSD doesn't need any cash and his reputation will be more valuable to him than a taste in a fix. Maybe Dhoni's sense of entitlement made him bat like that.

Plunkett demonstrating how valuable he is in the middle overs.

England effectively killed off the game which shows further progress - yes Dhoni’s innings seemed odd but credit to England the way they bowled to him. Not great for the spectators but a decent psychological blow nonetheless.

Dhoni perhaps doing a Gavaskar or a Boycott - batting for his average when it was clear the game was already gone...

Still, well done England. They bowled very tightly early on, and when it looked like India were recovering thanks to Kohli, his wicket killed the game off. England's bowling is still obviously weaker than their batting, but it's stronger than it's often been made out to be. It's not Australia or South Africa in terms of quality of the quicks, or India for quality spinners, but in overall effectiveness and balance, it's getting better. If only they could find a genuine fast strike bowler (Plunkett's good, but he's no Rabada/Boult/Starc), they'd have the complete package.

Well done England for a come-from-behind to take the series. No question they deserve the number 1 in the world ranking right now.

15 ODIs between now and the World Cup, plus whatever friendly warm-ups are offered. 5 each away v Sri Lanka and West Indies, and 5 at home v Pakistan. The latter should be a good warm-up/run-in for the cup.

Can England win the world cup? Most certainly. They have the team to do it. Will they? Heart says yes, head says no. ODI knockouts are just so unpredictable, and how often does everything go right for England when we need it to?

Well true...but on the other hand , they're probably "due"

Seriously think if the form holds up it's theirs to lose...main danger the sort of carelessness that saw two wickets tossed away unnecessarily on Tuesday - which didn't matter then , as it happened ; but might.

That and letting Stokes bowl at the death :)

Maybe need some wins in Asia? They lost last time in India, though won v BD and Pakistan. They lost last time in SL, but that was before the WC with Cook as captain.

Could do with a gun go-to pace bowler to be strong favourites. A Starc or a Boult. Hard to pick weaknesses otherwise. Maybe Rashid and Plunkett could be less expensive (though they take a lot of wickets). Perhaps they overbowl Gentle Ben. England are good enough to win, but aren't like the Aussies under Waugh and Ponting where you expect them to win.

Well done to Joe Root for a brilliant series against tough opposition. Particularly for overcoming the spin challenge. 216 runs for one dismissal.

Query over MSD for India?

Another excellent series for Willey? Is he a pick now. With Woakes coming in for Wood?

Agreed, I said that up-thread.

As you say, they have won in Asia. Lost narrowly to India 2-1 (and one of those losses could easily have gone the other way). They play Sri Lanka away later in the year, and should win.
