Losing one test in a series and going on to win the series is not a 'poor record'.
They haven't lost 5 in the last 10 at home. The last 10 home games reads W5, D2, L3.
Why do you keep skipping over the fact that England win home series?
Yes, they aren't as overwhelmingly dominant at home as India or Australia. But they still win a lot more than they lose at home, and are very difficult to beat over the course of a series.
India have a very strong chance to beat them in this series, and if they do it will rightly be considered a good achievement. Perhaps not as significant as a few years ago when England were stronger, but good nonetheless.
