Pope bats at six for Surrey I think. Will he come in at four for England?

I'm guessing we won't see Mo at Lord's.

Guess he'll have to, and me neither.

We really need to find some top order players.

Seems Ed Smith wants a team without about four 6/7s and three 8/9s plus Cook & Root and Broad & Anderson!

I noticed he was sitting next to Bayliss at Edgbaston and then a couple of hours later he was sending Worcs 3 points clear in the Blast. Worcs will be glad the test didn't drag on

In this age of Smith, Pope seems like a boring shout

he'd better hold on to his catches

Pope, 20yo with 15 fc matches.

Smith's statement sounds a bit idiotic and meaningless.

Ollie Pope has made an exceptional start to his first-class career. He has reached 1,000 first-class runs in just 15 matches and is the first division’s standout batsman this season with 684 runs at 85. The selection panel believes that Ollie’s performances and character suggest he is well suited to international cricket.

it's the 15 FC matches that makes the decision seem positively ordinary

Presume England aren't going to start rotating A&B. Resting Broad might though look uncomfortably like the axe.

If Smith had been a selector 15 years ago, he'd probably have awarded Charlie Shrek a test cap while he was still on a white ball only contract for Cornwall
