Unless we get a flat wicket, with negligible green grass or only brown grass and sunshine weather without rain, it's tough for us to win.

India certainly had the worst of the conditions but the pitch was not particularly quick so soft hands were needed and 200 was possible. England hugely overachieved in their innings and that must be down to the choice of bowlers by India.

2 spinners, defo wasn't a good move. India must be regretting that, KUldeep toothless, and Ashwin was bowling darts..... obviously Bhuvi was needed on deck like this....but injury sadly got him...doubt Umesh would have been much better, Bumrah, how far away is he?

Pataudi Trophy:

2003 - Drawn
2007 - India
2011 - England
2014 - England
2018 - TBA

It is indeed very disappointing to see FAB 5 have still not been replaced and its been so many years since they retired. All we have got in one replacement who can play in any conditions.

6 of our batsmen are averaging below 20.

Yep been a long long time since India did anything in England, and IMO 5-0 is on the cards barring a miracle here....batsman completely out of their depth, and with Kohli struggling with back, could be a long series for India

Every time i hear same story. We have better lineup this time, then loss happens. Next tour .... now we have got him, same story. Just fooling around since last 11 years . No results are there, just some bedtime stories to keep fans at sleep.

Meanwhile England came here in 2011 and won one series with Monthy, Swann , Cook and KP giving match winning performances. And our players are doing nothing. Why ?

POTM for me should be Woakes for a ton on a bowlers' wicket and a handful of wickets. Case could be made for Anderson though.

I'll have a go.

As they always play early in the season and none of their players play in IPL, they have more prior red ball match practice in upcoming conditions than all Indian players do (and even some England ones get for May tests!)

nor can they become overly reliant on home advantage, to paper over the cracks. Every series is an away series for them

In 2016 Pakistan played late in the season and drew 2-2.

I have heard that the ball swings more in Pakistan than it does in India. Could that be true?

If it is that would explain why Pakistan seamers swing the ball better than Indians and why Pakistanis are better batters of swing bowling than the colleagues of Kohli.

Either way it seems the wrong side played two tests and the wrong side is playing five.

Another four day test despite the rain.

The side playing 5 tests has very little to do with chances of winning. If it did England would only get 2 in India!
