Wicket for Woakes. Sixty run opening stand. VJ and Dhawan put on fifty in the first innings at Edgbaston so not the first reasonable start of the series. Whereas the England openers haven't made it past 30 yet.

Stokes getting more bowling than normal on a first morning.

time for a mega pujara and kohli partnership.

disappointed that these two haven't had many massive partnership overseas barring the mega test they had in Johannesburg in 2013.

both being close to scoring twin centuries in the match.

Woakes backing up his POTM performance at Lord's. But after his worst possible winter it's hard not to take his home pitch wickets without some reservations.

he looked good in the nets and bayliss and root said he looked good at training and he should certainly play the 3rd test and that is the opposition team saying that.

Think that narrative might start getting into english players heads and probably annoy quite a few english fans when it is mentioned all the time as well.

Nasser and Athers are starting to use it a lot lately as well, doesn't help that Ed smith used it to justify to drop Malan from the test team either.

Could we have at least let Kohli bat after lunch.

So disappointing after a good start, it's been wasted again

The key now is not to lose any of these early now.
really need a score from Pujara here, a century or even a 60 or 70 from him here would be massive.

this is a nice platform to get a good competitive first innings here.

TBH this years dukes ball seems to do more with the older ball and when the laquer comes off.
So far it is nice to see india batsman stick to the plan and actually have a plan to score runs and survive.
in the past 2 test barring Kohli they were batting like headless chickens and it didn't help everyone tried to follow kohli and not do what came to them naturally or even doing the basics rights.

Jheez India got some dreadful coaches and support group if they can not even coach the basics to the team and it shouldn't take 2 or 3 test matches for the players to learn from it.

Got a good reception according to cricinfo.

Also from cricinfo, Broad says the present balls are swinging more after 15 overs.

Mark my words if india batted like this in the first test they would have won the Test match, wouldn't have changed the result of the 2nd test mostly because the toss was very crucial.

Coaches and Captain need to be looked at the end of the series, although I would keep Kohli but the coaches needs to improve massively, how they got rid of kumble is beyond me.

Just my impressions and may well be wrong (I'm sure Slipstream would know) but I think Anderson isn't taking that many wickets with the first new ball spell these days and has been doing better later on.

Although the indian batsman look vulnerable to the in swinger now though but you hope they hardly miss and get LBW.
Believe with this new Technique Kohli averages around 50 or 60 with the inswinger which is far better than averaging 13 or 14 with the old technique and being Vulnerable outside off.

Although wonder how easy it is to change technique midgame to play with the bowler since the other stance kohli had he had an insane average to the ball coming in to him.
