Going to lose an over or two (as we tend to say at this time of the day). Maybe because the spinner was on (had to fetch the ball back).

in the defence of the bowlers they don't really have the pace to trouble the batsman if they do bowl fuller, but they could probably sacrifice some boundaries for the wickets, especially with the new ball and swing and seam movement in offer.

Jheez insane not to bowl woakes here, he probably the only english bowler here capable of being threatening for a long period of time.

looking like England lack of pace will be a problem in this deck.

Imho 350 is a winning total on this deck if india bowl like they can do and england bat like they do.

Say it all the time but the biggest issue for me is them wasting time needlessly in the middle of the day.

england bowled quick in the first hour, think they bowl 17 or 18 overs in the first hour.
Yet they slow down in middle session.

it annoys me when the players just doodle to bowl the overs.

Surprising most of the bowlers or teams are slow in england, very odd considering you will think them having more opportunities to take wickets and bowlers enjoy bowling here they will bowl quicker.

TBH wouldn't surprise me if england didn't bowl the overs when Rahane and Kohli were going crazy with boundaries, England got an habit of not really wanting to bowl when that happens and they take it to ridiculous levels of slowness in those times.

TBH the bad overrates means we don't even get sky analysis at the end of days play as well.

All depends on the batting now though plus assuming they can get the other 4 wickets cheaply.

Problem is that it's only really one more wicket - Ashwin and Pant are the last pair that can bat. Shamir will slog and then Is bang and Bumrah can't even do that. So it could be wrapped up pretty quick. Hoping for a good partnership between Pant and Ashwin

What the f is Jennings doing in the slips, he either drops straightforward catches or dives in vain as balls speed past him to the boundary.

He needs at least a fifty or he should be toast.

Yep it could all be finished quickly tomorrow.
although with england poor bowling meant india scored at a quick rate that they are still in a good position if they get all out tomorrow and it probably help they most likely to bowl in the best bowling condition.
weather not looking good tomorrow showers expected around 11 and lasting till 1pm.
so you expect the pitch to liven up tomorrow with the rain and the moisture levels should help the bowlers as well.

be interesting to see how much the indian bowlers get out of the deck, it did feel at times that anderson and broad were not effective because of their pace and woakes was their most dangerous bowling in the first session hasn't bowled yet with the 2nd new ball either.

2nd new ball still had the seam movement in offer as well.

Never thought bob willis speaks more sense than Dominic cork.
Crickey cork doing a holding here with the pitch report.
contradicting himself to justify the decision and then giving reason of why it isn't a great decision lol.

The English press do realise that ecb and Essex chose the 2nd eleven team and that ecb didn’t arrange adequate teams or facitities for bcci right.

Amount of warm up games won’t make a difference, but the quality of the teams and conditions will make a difference.
IMHO facing awful middle dobbers on a flat deck doesn’t help anyone or bowling to no bodies.
Although to be fair to India they were allowed to prepare the wicket which doesn’t often happen so they did get to play in similar wickets but only faced coles with any decent pedigree.

By all reports India didn’t even bat well or look fluent and they still got 300 odd which shows how poor the bowling was considering it good swing and seam movement.

India could play 5-10 of those warm up games and they would still not really learn much barring getting confidence of batting in the middle, unlikely to help them combat broad or anderson.

If India won the first test people wouldn’t even be talking about the warm up game.

England of all teams should know bad prep isn’t really much help either in the last ashes series.
That was a pointless exercise.
