The more I think about the more I think BK would have altered the course of this series. Would have been in his element on these pitches. Think with him and Bumrah there from the outset it is likely India would be 2-1 up now.

yep - Bhuvi is a pretty useful batter in these conditions too. With Bhuvi I suspect we would have won the first test. The Lords test was just all about the toss as the conditions were so extreme - I'm pretty sure Eng would have got rolled as well if they had had to bat first.

I was hoping Bhuvi would be back at some point in the series - he's our best bowler in these conditions

Maybe the chief executive has only seen Anderson bat once before, at TB v India four years ago. And he thinks England can still do it.

Still, I doubt people would have freed their schedule and got the train knowing that yesterday......

India will take a great deal away from this win. The openers didnt get blown away, and made starts in both innings. Rahane and Pujara finally got on the board. Kohli continues to put scores on the board that win matches. Bumrah added spice to the attack, and Pandya comes away with valuable contributions in both disciplines.

Meanwhile, England are left to ponder on the trigger point of both openers careers, their star match winner is playing the opposite of Kohli, their new 4 hasnt made a convincing start, their keeper is injured, and how much left in the tank for a bowling unit spearheaded by two ageing guys who might have a niggle or too after the effort of a congested summer.

Recipe is there for an Indian comeback to 2-2. I have a feeling its too early to proclaim a complete batting turn around as yet for India. Have a feeling both teams will win a test in those to come.

At least England didn't capitulate particularly meekly. Could have done better though.

Bairstow is likely to be out, with a chance Buttler will take over the gloves or Foakes come in. If Buttler is keeper, it's not obvious which batter will step into the middle order.

Cook may be on paternity.

Possible that Burns may come in for Jennings or Cook and Curran for Woakes.

It wouldnt surprise me if Cook calls it a day once the sprog arrives. Id be even less surprised if the 5th test is his last game. Cant be much left on the clock, Id imagine surely someone has already had the conversation with him?

Id like to see him step away rather than be dropped. I just cant see why he would want to play on, new kid arriving, nothing to prove, clearly declined now.

The maximum I give him is 12 months

Journos say he (and Anderson) will retire after next summer's Ashes. But I don't know if they know. Must be possible Cook won't be given that long.

Don't have any expectation of Cook making runs anymore. Not that old, but he's been around the dancefloor a few times. If his determination has gone, that's a lot of his game lost to him.

Wonder where things stand on resting A&B.
