might be a 2 spin pitch, of course, otherwise England have just reinforced the batting at the expense of a bowler. Santiago picks up a niggle and can't bowl (he is 136 of course even if Bayliss thinks he can play on until he's 140) and England are down to bare bones with the ball

Dropping pope after 3 innings doesn't exactly send the young lad a good message

Just like dropping Curran

Just heaps more pressure on them when they do come back in

Plus we again have 4 lefties in the top 7 for Ishant/Ashwin especially to exploit.

Minimum 100 innings. Bradman played 80.

Pope dropped, after 3 innings being forced to bat out of position. I hope England haven't done in his confidence/form as they did with Hameed.

Two spinners, and Curran recalled for Woakes. Hard to argue with Moeen's recall as primarily a batsman given his form, but why is he batting at 7 and Buttler at 6 :facepalm

Thanks. One way to stop him topping every list.

Or Curran.

A bit different for Curran as a bowler can always be fancied more or less for any surface, and Woakes was fit again and Stokes out of the clink. But it does add to the impression of a team in ultra-flux. Or supertransition, as the ECB might put it, to make it sound more positive.

Maybe he's back to bowl spin but they can't drop Rashid?

England bat first and win their fourth toss out of four.

Top order under pressure from the off.

The vibe is with India.

Burns is next I suppose. Dale Steyn said he was an international quality opener.

Here are the openers post Strauss. Jennings still has Lyth to catch of the regulars.

Carbs deserves an asterisk, because he opened to Mitch1 and Harris.
