Good grief. Vijay's average outside of India in the past three years has been 12, with a high score of 46...

That said, he had a good tour last time India were in Australia in 14/15 - 482 runs at 60, 1 hundred, 4 50s in 4 tests.

Rohit seems to be the epitome of the divergence of the modern game between limited overs and tests. Superb in ODIs (India's all-time ODI XI? Probably), but modest record in tests at best. Just goes to show the hugely different qualities needed to thrive in the different formats these days.

The recently retired Gambhir averaged 48.7 in SA/WI/NZ/Eng. Remarkable record for an Indian opener. Only 40 if you add Aus though. Rahul averages 38 outside Asia and has a ton in Sydney, so not too bad overall. Only Sunny, Shastri and Gambhir have better averages than Rahul outside Asia for openers to have played more than ten Tests. VJ goes just under 30.

Chris Martin couldve made runs on the pitches in that series

Got to leave out one of SRT or Sehwag!

As openers anyway.

Rahul looks a worse player now than he did when he first started

Good post. Gauti was relatively much better. His innings in NZ to bat for a draw was amazing for someone other than Fab 4. Rahul is hyped by player management agency. Averaged 7 runs in South Africa. Team Management still gave him chance in England, flopped there. Again bad start. Gauti was never hyped so much.

Rahul made a big ton at the Oval, opening with Dhawan, though after the series was decided. Terrible tour otherwise. Curious he has four away tons for only one at home, though two were in WI and SL.

Don't really need Warner and Smith to dismiss Indian openers cheaply overseas.

10 overs. No 4 yet off the bat.

First bowling change. Pat into attack to bowl 11th over.

Like in England, India driving incautiously.
