Agreed. Both Rahul and Vijay have pretty shoddy records outside Asia (outside India, even), while Gauti did very well in tough places to open. Rahul's average outside Asia is 25 if you don't count easy runs against the West Indies...

Gauti had weakness only outside off. Rahul has weakness against incoming deliveries. He also has issues with temperament , has not shown he can bat long for draw and less gritty as well. What I mean is that even records apart Gauti was better player overseas.

I wish everyone bats a day and scores 30. That would draw the match.

He has a bad overseas record but at least he is making ball old for other batsmen to follow. Doing the job of openers here taking shine off the ball. At this point we need to bat at least a day and a session to fight back. SR is not the important issue than crease occupancy in t this situation IMO.

Chet still there on 36 from 126 as the Indian innings crumbles around him. Bit of a counterattack from Rohit and Pant, but counterattacking was probably not the way out of that situation. Pant out to a good ball, but could easily have been out hooking.

Needless to say India are a long way short of a good total.

The way this is going I expect to get home from work just about in time to watch the new Australian opening combination taking to the crease...

Superb by Pujara. A well deserved hundred, giving the Indian innings some respectability. 250 may be sub-par, but it's not indefensible.
