Sounds like a big weakness!

Thanks for the info Adi.

I've heard of Gill among the younger players, seems to have had plenty of good press.

Rahul Dravid is India A coach.. Most of them have also been coached by Rahul when our U19 team won the WC. So he understands some of batsmen and vice versa. Shubman Gill has been his understudy in U19 as well as A team. The dictat is that the A tours will be important for selection to international squad.

Shubman stands upright , has a leg stump stance with make shift movement towards middle stump. Most India A batsmen have that stance to begin with, followed by various makeshift movements. Probably Rahul has asked them, not sure. He is not someone whose bat follow through is complete. It's mostly timing and punch half way. Today he got beaten on two balls bowled by offie, turning in to him and hit pads but apart from that there was no sign of struggle. He needed this big innings. A 200 tomorrow and press will back him more for inclusion. The timing of knock is also great considering the opening is in crisis wet Shikhar, Rahul and Vijay. A spot is there to be grabbed.

Regarding Mayank, that weakness will be an issue with someone bowling very fast. But still nobody can do worse than the current openers and he deserves a chance for sure. But not excited about him as much because there are better long term options. Temporarily he is fine to check.

It was a good ball to get rid of Rahul - it swung pretty late. However, an in-form batsmen could perhaps have kept it out.

Finely poised test match again. This is proving to be a pretty absorbing series so far. Very impressive for the two at the crease to survive a difficult spell last night - they soaked up a lot of pressure. I had India written off, but I guess the moral is that you never can while Kohli is at the crease. Still new ball is due shortly after the resumption on day 3, and if the Aussies can get their lines right and bag a couple of quick wickets, they should still be looking at a first innings lead. The old cliche of the morning session being crucial continues to hold...

Incidentally, Lyon is yet to be dismissed in this series, after three innings...

201/1. Virat as usual is scoring well and in 90's. Bihari has done well so far. 2 wickets and 16 runs. More importantly he gives much better confidence than Rohit has given.

Vihari caught by Tim Paine. Excellent ball by Josh on off stump and moving away. Out for 20 after making a 50 runs partnership with Virat.

India 235/5. Trailing by 103 runs. Can break even with one good partnership.

Big wicket of Virat to Pat. Shami too follows in few balls.

India are 252/7 at Lunch. Trailing by 74. Chances of getting lead are very less now. It was much needed as we are batting last.

Looks a good day for the Baggy Greens, especially Lyono, even given King Kohli's ton. Handy I suppose that India don't have a front line spinner too.

Useful resistance by Umesh and Pant though. But, not enough to amount to a change of momentum yet.

Five for Lyon and India trail by 43 at half way. India are behind but nothing that can't be made up, especially with the weakness of the Aussie batting. How they need Steve Smith right now.

India will be kicking themselves about the spinner.

Last five wickets for 32 from the loss of Kohli. All to Lyon.

Australia are favorites with lead of 60 and all wickets intact. Batting last will be difficult than the it was in first innings. Well done to Lyon, he has been a stellar performer for Aussies this year.

Looks like Finch has a broken finger. Aussies probably looking for another new opener.

Finch retired hurt and in hospital now for X-Ray. Hope he recovered but he isn't the first casualty of Indian's fast pace attack. Dean Elgar, A B D, Amla and Faf were troubled by the pace on India's tour to SA. Faf in fact also missed few matches iirc. Elgar was badly hit on helmet. Amla and ABD's fingers were badly hurt as well. The casualty list by Indian pacers is increasing on overseas tours.

The wicket of Marcus was much welcome as he made good contribution in first innings. Shaun did not trouble much. Aussies are leading by 117 runs and even if we consider Finch won't bat again, they still have 7 wickets intact. However, it has been excellent hour of pace bowling by Jas and Shami. Jas won't speak much to the batsmen but his bowling really does the talking.
