Shame the third game isn't in a classic venue. But then England fans complain if they don't get a holiday venue. No doubt the venue does well from it too.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel yesterday named the CWI President's XI squad to face England.

Jahmar Hamilton, the wicket-keeper/batsman, has been named as captain and the squad includes six players with Test match experience. These are batsmen Sunil Ambris, Jermaine Blackwood and Vishaul Singh; allrounder Raymon Reifer; and fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Miguel Cummins.

The teams will meet in two two-day matches at the 3Ws Oval at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. The first match will be played on January 15 and 16 and the second match on January 17 and 18.

How many World Class cricketers have the Windies produced, but Daren Sammy has a stadium named after him (yes, I know its because he's obviously a rare St Lucian success).

Id had have thought the suntowel brigade would be adequately wrinkled and gammon red by the time Barbados and Antigua have finished with them. Surprised not to see a Trinidad, ?Jamaica or Guyana presence there, youd have thought at the least theyd have more home fans to potentially sell to?

Information coming to me from a very good friend who used to be on the board of the Jamaica Cricket Association is that a few years ago the WICB tried to get England to play in Jamaica and Guyana. However, the ECB and the Barmy Army objected because neither venue had white sand beaches within walking distance. When the ECB threatened to cancel the tour the WICB backed down because a tour by England is of only two tours that turns a profit for the WICB. In effect the ECB approves venues suggested by the WICB.

I guess you would know a lot more, but some fans might be put off by an urban location like Sabina Park not so much for the lack of beaches, but for general safety concerns. Kingston seems to have a bit of a reputation for crime, whether that is true or not I wouldnt like to guess, but that perception is enough to stop people spending large amounts of money travelling to go to games there.

Although you'd like to think the largest of English speaking city in the Caribbean might still attract a decent home crowd, but I realise that is not a realistic assumption. I guess the T20 games in Jamaica are well supported.

In the end, that's what it comes down to...local fans no longer go to Test matches. So, if England fans are coming in numbers, then the WICB caters to them.

Darren Bravo is set to play his first Test in more than two years, after being named in West Indies' squad for the first Test against England in Barbados next week.

I'd say Curran and Broad.
I was surprised that Leach was expensive yesterday.

Stone's replacement to be named. Will it be Wood, J Overton or Porter? Wood in England and the other two out in India.
