Karunaratne hit on the head. Sounds like it might be a worry.

A good day's cricket, apart from the Karunaratne injury. I hope he's ok, ducked into a bouncer from Cummins. He's been taken off to hospital :scared

That opened the door for Australia somewhat, as the opening pair were going along nicely and wickets looked extremely hard to come by. That said, it was a damn good delivery by Cummins to get Mendis, and not a bad one at all by Lyon for his wicket. Starc was pretty scattergun, but fast - two of the three Aussie wickets came because the batsmen were beaten for pace, the sort of pace the Sri Lanka bowlers can't muster. It's how Aussies get wickets on flat decks.

Manuka's getting better as a venue. Every time I go they've improved the seating, facilities, catering etc.

I wonder what Aaron Finch is thinking about all this.

Must feel good.

Four innings against this SL side, yet to be dismissed and three centuries.

Dropped first ball. That has been costly for SL.

Burns, Head and Kurt were all dropped when they had scored little.

Reports on the ABC website say. that Karunaratne is ok, and that he was talking when he was being taken off the field.

It did look worrying, seeing him laying on the ground for so long (I didn't see the delivery live, but came into the room afterwards).

What was also a worry, was having the Channel 7 News on after the cricket, not paying too much attention as I was in the kitchen, but looked up as they were heading to an ad break before the sports section. They showed the delivery that collected Karunaratne, with the large (large) headline underneath: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

It may NOT have been in relation to Karunaratne's injury. If so, it was very, very careless. If it WAS, it was incredibly insensitive - especially as comparisons to Phil Hughes' blow were being discussed during the long, long break that happened while he was getting attention.

My sense of humour can be quite callous, but I was gobsmacked at this.

Update on cricinfo says Karunartne is ok, and they're hoping he'll be fit enough to bat tomorrow. No doubt they'll keep him in hospital overnight for observation - fairly standard after a head injury, but good news.

Impressive comeback by Joe and a good debut series to Kurtis. Looks like another comprehensive win in this test as well.

Every head injury in Australia is going to happen in the shadow of Phil Hughes' death. Many people will fear the worst.

There was always a a fearful reaction when anyone got hit on the head anyway.

I think he was lucky, because I think the ball looks to have hit his lead shoulder, which would no doubt have taken some of the sting of the ball out before it smacks into his neck. If he gets hit on the neck full bloodied at 143 kph, then hes in all kinds of trouble.

Tracks Head was quite emotional the evening before, talking about Hughes. He looked to the sky as he celebrated his maiden test century, in what was a tribute to his good friend Hughes.

So, the spectre of Hughes' injury and death was even more present yesterday.

How were the two such good friends? Head must have been still in his teens when Hughes died, and Head is a South Australian, Hughes was NSW's wasnt he? They couldnt have crossed paths in the national setup. Are they related?

Another SL batter retires hurt after a blow to the head. Apparently goes off with concussion. Off goes Kusal Perera, back comes Karunaratne who retired hurt yesterday.

Hughes was playing for SA (against NSW, at the SCG) when he was hit. Head was a very early starter in his 1st class career.

just looked it up, Both of them started playing 1st Class for SA in 2012
