The most they can finish on no is 9 points, Aus win tonight against Bang, and the are out of SA's reach. India is bound to win against Afg on Saturday. Then, it will be impossible for SA to progress.

Not quite out mathematically, but the chances of them qualifying with 9 points are pretty minimal. But India will still only be on 9 points if they win against Afghan on Saturday, so everyone but Afghanistan will be mathematically still alive. Just barely.

The scheduling of this tournament remains ridiculous. On Friday evening, 5 teams will have played 6 games, while India will still only be on 4. Sri Lanka and India have six days between matches this week, while England pack three into seven days. New Zealand will complete their 8th game before India have their final three matches - then India have to play those three in 6 days.

Surely things could have been spread more evenly?

I see Hamish brought up his 8000th ODI run yesterday

either he was a much more dynamic player in his youth or he's been playing ODI cricket for 200 years

:lmaoagain

Was that deliberate, or an autocorrect of Hashim?

A career SR over 88 suggests that yes, indeed he used to be somewhat less turgid with the bat than he has been in this tournament. But then, Sunil Gavaskar would be less turgid than Amla at this tournament...

BD have Afghanistan next, so if they win today, they will gather some momentum. And they finish with Pakistan, which must be very winnable. That gives them 11 points. If Australia lose to England then beat SA, that then leaves Australia needing to beat NZ to go through.

Provided that the initial 'if' holds true.

Makes this a big game... Australia can't afford to look down, otherwise their world cup future is on the line.

Wee Davie is still plodding a bit. Zampa, Nile and Stoinis back for the BGs. Khawaja holds his place. Marsh and Richardson out, and Behrendorff, as soon as I learn to spell his name, is gone.

Unusually, the side winning the toss is batting.
I always say that everybody's right.

This is what I thought at the start.

As well as the clatter of games at the end, you've got to assume India will play at least one Final match, probably two, if they make the final, they will play 5 games in 14 days.

Still, this could very well work in India's favour.

Warner's gone past Finch, who earlier went past Shakib, to be highest scorer at the WC.
