ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier

Postby The Professor » Thu Aug 29, 2019 9:49 pm

Kicks off on Saturday.

The aim of the game is to find the top two of Scotland, USA, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Netherlands, Ireland and Namibia.

Scotland have the early run of things due to the largest win in a round of warm-up games that started today, with the hosts beating Namibia by 84 runs.

The bulk of the damage was done by the opening batsmen who put on 87 runs. The Namibians seemed all at sea and used 11 (yes eleven) bowlers throughout the 20 overs. The only one that bowled her full allocation - Kayleen Green - got all 3 Scottish wickets but couldn't stop them getting to 170.

Namibia stuttered to 86/7 - choosing care rather than being skittled out.

in the other games Bangladesh, Ireland and Thailand were the respective victors over the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and the USA.

Blink and you miss it with some of these competitions.

Today was the last round of the group stages of this competition with Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea both winning today and topping Group A whilst Thailand and Ireland top Group B. All these teams are just one win away from a spot at next year's World T20 competition.

Sibona Jimmy was the star today as she dominated the US, first with 58* and then with 3-15. This now makes her the second highest wicket taker and the third highest run scorer.

Bangladesh were well on the way to tonking Scotland even before the rain set in. Despite the fact that a decent Scottish bowling attack, led by Kathryn Bryce's 2-13, kept chipping away. She is now the fifth highest wicket taker.

The final round of games occur on Thursday.
