A bowler who can bat a bit is where I would put Woakes at international level, but he might very well be considered an allrounder for Warwickshire. Perhaps Curran too, but I'd be less certain of that. Stokes could be one of the great allrounders internationally, but he seems to be inconsistent in a way that Sir G (the greatest allrounder in history) wasn't. Maybe Sobers was the exception and it is in the nature of allrounders to be a bit up and down. I suppose the regard a genuine allrounder is held in is directly proportional to the impact they have in defining series, in which case Stokes will end up being held in high regard by many, although probably not by you, SP.

Stokes' workload this summer has been nigh on brutal and he has had a series of 'highs'. He should have been rested for this match, imo, if England intend for him to lead the side in NZ later in the year, but I understand why England didn't do that. Unlike me, they have to believe that this series can be saved

and predictably, once the top 4 were out the rest have set about subsiding pretty quickly

at this point in time, if I had to choose between JB1 and JB2 as keeper I'd choose JB2. Two matches ago I'd have picked JB1

Fifty for JB2. Has a feeling of being much too late. May well ensure a tour though.

They have surely got to drop one of buttler or bairstow

And whoever is picked keeps and bats 7

Then pope comes in and bats 6 behind stokes

Yes, that's how I see it. I'd probably go to a different keeper this winter though (Foakes) with Bairstow and Buttler competing for that one spot. Though I'm inclined to rule Buttler out just because he has almost zero first class pedigree.

Foakes had a chance this season to force his way in after the winter

But just over 500 runs at 27 with a high score of 67 isnt exactly knocking the door down

Looking at the scorecard, it looks like MMarsh completed an over for Cummins, but Cricinfo doesn't say anything about Cummins being injured. Can someone explain what has happened here?
Maybe

Other way round. Marsh went off injured and Cummins completed the over.

82 is the new 90

as ticket prices spiral upwards

I'll bet if the Scottish Court of Session ruled on appeal that punters had to get back a 1/90th portion of their entry fee for every over unbowled in a day unaffected by weather, that we'd get 90 overs bowled every *modded* day

fair play to Buttler, because despite his obvious lack of test technique, he managed to hang in there long enough to earn the right to go after the bowling given the old ball and the match situation.

I have no idea why Archer is coming in ahead of Leach, who had another good day with the bat. All he has to do now is bowl well in the 4th innings if Smiffy can't drag Australia to a match winning single innings score.
