My guess would be Brisbane 2010.... but then I am Mr glass half empty

surely they've managed it since then?

it would be ridiculous for an England side to be so woeful for so long

The last time was actually as recent as 2016, but in that game the pitch was a road, a result was largely out of the question if England could bat 2 sessions instead of all day, and bad light stopped play with over 20 overs left To be bowled.

Last time in the 4th innings fair dinkum batting all day for a draw was here in NZ in 2013 - 9 wickets down at the end.

Batting all day on day 5 is hard for most teams, but yes, England have been particularly crap in this area for a long time.

Priors innings was one of the greatest by a recent English batsman.

What a terrible pitch

No seam
No bounce
No spin
No pace

Not a good advert for test cricket

NZ wont mind. England chances to win are now almost zero. New Zealand will just want to keep this batting going as long as possible. If hypothetically they can get into the late afternoon with a 150ish lead, see if they can get England out and leave themselves a short chase.

thanks fluffy. 6 years is still a long time, even by England standards. I don't know anyone who thinks England ever have any chance of batting all day to save a test match these days.

when I picked Santner for my FL side, I thought it would be for his wickets....... I didn't realise it was for his ability to grind the England attack into the ground

England didn't bat all the last day at Brisbane. They had a longish bowl at the end of the day. But they could have done.

NZ grinding England here. England should be able to bat for a draw though. Only four sessions on a flat pitch and no spinner of any pedigree for NZ.

Sheesh. And now NZ get the benefit of a day 5 pitch to bowl England out on.

Puts that 350 in context, really.

Chances of England batting this out? Minimal, I would say.

England lose three wickets in half an hour, after New Zealand lost 3 all day. At least one was a nightwatchman. And when you've got to bat all day tomorrow, and see the innings through to close, why sweep and attack outside off?

Still, sums it up really. Change of mindset to bat long, my @rse

Disappointing end to the day...after Burns and Sibley had played pretty well to get within seven overs of the close despite likely being a bit weary from two days in the field , they both lose their heads and their wickets in the shadows of stumps...

Night watchman Leach gone too. Bit unlucky. Should have taken the review.

Tough job tomorrow. Root needs to bat all day. Can't see it .
