Some career ODI death bowling (last 4 overs)

Archer 4.62
Wood 6.56
Plunkett 7.12
Stokes 7.80
T Curran 8.20
Dernbach 8.51
Jordan 9.24

I think these figures in the WI T20s got him in the side. 3 matches 7.0-0-36-6 econ 6.00 s/r 5.14

They picked this side with the T20 World Cup in mind to get players having a run out. So if Jordan is back now, its almost certainly linked to this. I think if it was with ODIs in the future in mind, it would be a pretty crazy pick. He couldnt bat in ODIs, he couldnt really take wickets, and he was expensive. Not really a case for selecting him. The mention of Dernbach made me chuckle; I still ponder on a daily basis who he had to screw to play for England in over 30 ODIs. I still remember him bowling very early in his ODI career; he bowled about 2 overs where he was struggling to hit the cut strip, then laid down a looping slower ball yorker that swung late and hit the stumps.... the commentators were still debating about England having found the next superstar, even as his bowling figures ended up 1/120 of something.

On another note, I seen an interesting article the other day about Riley from Kent, the "next Graeme Swann" who did wonders for a year, got into the England setup, was told he bowled too slow, then spent the next 3 years getting smashed around after he bowled too quick and couldnt get the ball on a length anymore. He blames the tinker on his downward spiral.

Been a lot of talk about Parko bowling too slow like him. And that he should speed up...... all the commentators in the ODI series have been saying it, echo'd by the England setup. I imagine next time you see him, he will be bowling 50 as opposed to 46 mph, and rather than turning it past bats into the stumps, he will be turning his excellent bowling average into an early retirement.

I can just imagine English coaches telling a 20 year old Murali "now, I know your the best bowler around, but fancy doing it with a straighter wrist like normal.... I know what you are doing is working, but its not how we do it here".

If Sam Curran can get away with bowling medium pace dobbers for England, then Parkinson should not have to worry about bowling faster. At least he can turn the ball better than Scott Borthwick.

He'd needed to have done it at higher strike rates to be more compelling

So Denly is going to be in the T20 team?

Don't think Denly will be around the T20 squad long. s/r 98.92. Root did the 'holding the innings together' s/r 126.30.

When everyone is fit something like this

1 Buttler
2 Roy
3 Bairstow
4 Malan
5 Morgan
6 Stokes
7 Ali
8 Jordan
9 Wood
10 Rashid
11 Archer

Reserves Banton T Curran Mahmood Parkinson

Foakes and Jennings have both been selected for the Sri Lanka series. No Bairstow, Moeen or Santiago.

I guess that means that Buttler will still be around the test team, which feels daft. They are going to end up ruining him as a white ball player just for the sake of Smith's ego

Joe Root (Yorkshire, capt), Dom Bess (Somerset), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Zak Crawley (Kent), Sam Curran (Surrey), Joe Denly (Kent), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Keaton Jennings (Lancashire), Jack Leach (Somerset), Matthew Parkinson (Lancashire), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Dominic Sibley (Warwickshire), Ben Stokes (Durham, vice-capt), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham)

Rumours of Denly's demise proved to be exaggerated.

I think in recent seasons, hes turned out to be a very handy T20 bowler at times. Decent econ, and takes a few wickets. In fact, I think he pretty much batted well down the order and bowled in his last T20Is, so you have to look at more than the batting when assessing what the selectors are picking him for.
