Can comment now. Butler redeemed himself somewhat but his keeping has to improve. Who knows what the damage to Bess might be?

Well done to Woakes, and Buttler.

I think Buttler should be rested as keeper for the next game though. He can arm wrestle Crawley for a batting spot. Archer makes way.

Being spoiled with good Test Matches this year , eh ? Even if we have to do without the colourful costumes that Arthur loves so much :)

Thought it was gone when Pope got that brute of a ball. But that rattle of runs before tea while Pakistan lost a bit of concentration put it back on the table. And Woakes and Buttler played really sensible cricket after tea to bring it home.

Pakistan will be gutted. Might find it hard to come back from this ? They didn't exactly fold up under pressure ; but I think they probably erred by going defensive directly after tea. A wicket in that first hour would have probably ensured a win.

Wonder what the next two matches have in store for us ?

I think he will stay keeping. At least for now. England got away with it today ; but I think they will want the extra batsman.

I'd been out since the tea interval and so I waited to for the highlights to see how the match panned out

What a partnership that was between Buttler and Woakes. That is the best that I've seen Woakes play. It would have been very easy for England to subside after the dismissal of Pope, but these two counter attacked their way to victory. By being more aggressive they pushed the fielders back and gave themselves more scoring opportunities.

It was pleasing to see how emotional Woakes was after Archer's bending backs comments, and it was equally pleasing to see Buttler acknowledge that his keeping was way below par and that because of his mistakes England had an extra 100 runs to chase. His best innings for a while (red ball), but he'd put himself in the situation where he needed to do it.

Quiet times with the bat for Stokes.

I was watching Alex Lees bat today for Durham and against the right arm seamers coming around the wicket to him he took a 4th stump guard and exposed his leg stump. Not only did it prevent him being 'Abbassed', but if the bowler was tempted into going for the leg stump he just worked the ball away square for runs. Something for the England batsmen to consider perhaps

I'd rest Ando and drop Archer for the next test. England need the extra batsman, so presumably Crawley will come back and then it's a toss up between Curran and Wood. Buttler will keep the gloves I imagine, because Foakes won't solve the number 3 conundrum, but he'll have to do much better. Poor Dom Bess
