Commentators say there are concerns about conditions- must be like an oven in that ground today. First time in history that hot weather is causing problems in Chester-le-Street!

Mark Wood is commentating for Sky and he says he has had another setback- problem with his ankle after he played a club game at the weekend and another operation is required!
Been no sign of Potts after his 4th over- apparently struggling in the heat. If a 23 yesr old athlete didn't last long the conditions must be horrific. Almost 0% swing or seam movement.

None of the bowlers going well. But pretty though for them.

I believe this is Gentle Ben's farewell.

Interview with him before the game and he said the schedule made it impossible for him to play all 3 parts. He said he wants to be playing tests aged 35/36 so decided one other format had to go.

According to The Times there were discussions earlier about abandoning the game but they decided 16000 people making for cars and buses at the same time would be dangerous in this heat whereas inside the ground there wss access to water and medical help.

Knew this would happen days ago. Presumanly they've done some scenarios on circumstances such as this.

Mr. Roy goes. Great start though. Like the old days.

YJB follows

the 'wickets in hand and a dart at the end' old days?

200 still needed and half the innings gone. I suppose the difference between now and the old days is that these players are not phased by 8 an over scenarios

England are just like Durham.... you can field as many quality bowers as you like, but chuck a bit of part time spin in the mix and everyone's fighting over who gets to throw their wicket away first

Stokes out. JB2 and Root are capable of chasing this and plenty of hitting to come. SA slightly ahead though.
